A bad disk. The drive seems to function perfectly well otherwise.

Re: Help with HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT

To answer my own question ... You can pre-rip the DVD in question with dd if=/dev/sr0 bs=2048 conv=noerror > Desktop/blah.iso The conv=noerror tells dd to ignore errors. And then mount this image for MakeMKVing. I don't know if all the errors in the image will break the MakeMKV part of the process, ...

Help with HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT

Hi-ya, Is there anyway to work around a bad disk? I have a few DVDs (not bluray) that wont rip because of, well, i don't know, manufacturing faults? MakeMKV v1.9.7 linux(x64-release) started Using direct disc access mode Title #1 was added (7 cell(s), 1:09:05) Operation successfully completed Saving...

Minor Bug: No audio selected on foreign language disks

Hi, Just a very minor bug report. I buy a lot of foreign language TV-series DVDs and then rip them. Typically on a DVD is a bunch of episodes (/N/ titles), where each title has Mpeg2 Video, and "[x] Subtitles English" already selected. But the only audio track "DD Stereo Japanese"...

Re: Feature Request - File Split by Chapter

Also would like to see this feature in MakeMKV, but until that I wrote a little script to do it for me. #!/bin/sh file=$1 timecodes=`mkvextract chapters -s "${file}"|grep "CHAPTER[0-9][0-9]="|sed '1,1d;:a;N;$!ba;s/CHAPTER[0-9][0-9]\=//g;s/\n/,/g'` mkvmerge --split timecodes:&quo...

Hi, MakeMKV can't seem to find the title for HARRY_POTTER_&_PART_1 Here's the output: Is there a work around? MakeMKV v1.6.7 linux(x86-release) started Using direct disc access mode Title #00007.mpls has length of 340 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 4200 seconds and was theref...

Re: Any possibility of allowing "burned in" subtitles?

Does this help: http://www.pcworld.com/article/159793/watch_mkv_video_files_in_windows_media_center.html Which also seems to be the solution here: http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/01/playing-mkvs-in-media-center.html From what I've just read (I'm a Linux + MythTV user myself, don't do windows), there's t...

Re: Any possibility of allowing "burned in" subtitles?

I'm probably being a pedant, but MKV is a container format, not a CODEC. MakeMKV takes whatever format the disc is in, and re-packs it into a MKV container, so say you are ripping blue-ray - your MKV would be packed with a MP4/h264 video, or perhaps VC-1. The subtitles are also packed into the MKV -...

Re: Unwanted Subtitles

When the 'tree" representing the content of the disk is shown - after you scan the disk. but before you start the rip. Drill down through the tree, and you will see the subtitle tracks checked for inclusion. Mine defaults to selecting english. There's "forced" subtitles and ordinary s...

I hacked around a script I found on this site which played the live stream. I should have left the original authour's details in the comments, but I didn't. My apologies to them. !/bin/bash cat /home/knobbi/Bin/blueray_please_wait.png > /dev/null qiv /home/knobbi/Bin/blueray_please_wait.png & # ...

1.6.3 works very nicely

Hi, I'm a purchased-key user of MakeMKV. I updated to the 1.6.3 (linux) version a few weeks ago. I just wanted to say that it's performing very well. I haven't had a problem using it with any of my titles, and it exhibits no bugs at all. Because of this, MakeMKV has become an indispensable addition ...

Re: makemkvcon - audio language?

I partially sorted this out - Obviously the streamed file has multiple audio tracks. Of course! (doh!) However, streaming my copy of "Open Season 2" which has 3 languages (according to the cover: English, French & Spanish), this gave an stream in which VLC said there was 7 audio tracks...
