Re: Will flashing the 1.02MK firmware over the LibreDrive 1.05 firmware cause problems?

Yes, of course it is ok to flash. This is what cross-flashing is. You would be cross-flashing a WH14NS40 to become a WH16NS60. They are different models. Also the former is a MK firmware, which is an original firmware that is modified by Mike, the MakeMKV creator to enable libredrive and also downg...

Re: Will flashing the 1.02MK firmware over the LibreDrive 1.05 firmware cause problems?

Totally up to you but I have read about many people using Parallels on Mac for flashing. If SDFtool recognizes and displays the drive correctly there shouldn't be any issue. Just to be absolutely certiain, it's OK to flash the DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02MK.bin file to my LG WH14NS40 drive, right? Even thou...

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

I cannot help you with LG firmware, because I simply don't know. However, I can say that the default udev rules in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d should add your SCSI disks to the "disk" group, and your SCSI optical drives to the "cdrom" group. So as long as your user belongs to both of ...

Re: Will flashing the 1.02MK firmware over the LibreDrive 1.05 firmware cause problems?

No, it's fine to flash. WH16NS60 1.02-MK is the recommended firmware for your drive anyway. I have no idea about firmware incompatibility with Linux. If it happens to be MK firmware that is incompatible, you can always try DE WH16NS60 1.00 or DE WH16NS40 1.02 as these are original firmware versions...

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

This suggests you may have a deeper configuration problem. I went and dug out my old Apple SuperDrive. It's DVD only, not BluRay, but if there's a system-wide misconfiguration, this drive should fail to read also. After dealing with the well-known "Apple SuperDrive won't unlock unless you plug...

I just checked, and now I do have /dev/dvd0 and /dev/cdrom0 and /dev/bluray0 symlinks...

And it seems to have changed nothing. :(

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

OK, but I would have expected you to have those rules already in your /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules file, which is part of the systemd-udev-258.7-1.fc43.x86_64 package. Weird... My /etc/udev/rules.d/ folder is completely empty now that I removed that 99-optical-permissions.rule file.....

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

I tried running MakeMKV while the disk was ejected and nothing was in the drive. It sees the drive, it sees that the drive is ejected, no problem. I close the tray with a DVD in the tray and the icon spins -- and then it actually showed the name of the movie on the disc!! That's the first time that'...

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

Just for kicks, I removed the USB hub from the equation and plugged the drive directly into a USB port on the back of my motherboard.

No change.

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

Do you have some stale script in your /etc/udev/rules.d/ directory that you have forgotten about? Do you have any kind of /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules script? I do have a file in there called 99-optical-permissions.rules, which I added yesterday in an attempt to fix this issue. The /dev...

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

That makes no sense: The same /dev/srX node should be used for both DVDs and BluRays. Is this a USB drive, and is it getting enough power? It seems to be getting enough power. I have zero issues when I rip BluRays, and you'd think if it were a power issue, I'd have issues no matter what type of dis...

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

You can eliminate LibreDrive from this simply by never opening MakeMKV. So are you saying that you cannot even mount the disk using: $ udisksctl mount -b /dev/sr2 Fedora 43 doesn't mount the optical disk's filesystem automatically. It requires some kind of interaction to request it. That is correct...

Re: Is the LibreDrive firmware causing Linux to be unable to read DVDs, but still read BluRays just fine?

I can't imagine there are any errors with BluRay discs, seeing as how they read perfectly with no issues. And same with the USB hub -- if it can read a BluRay through that hub, it can certainly read a DVD, no? And it's not just a fluke -- I've read 4 different BluRays with no issues, and failed to r...
