Be careful. Only the XD08UMB-S is UHD compatible. If you can still get an older version I would recommend the BDR-XS07UHD which might be more affordable. The XD08U 1.00 firmware is supported by Makemkv. If you drive comes with a newer firmware it will be couple of days after submitting the report Makemkv generates for your drive and submitting that.
