Is there the "Initio Default Controller" in the device manager? If so uninstall it and check the drive recognition again.
No. I don't see anything like that. Here's what I see:

Re: External LG-BU40N has stopped being recognized in Windows.

The Vantec's circuitry has probably died. You could get a cable to run the drive directly, without the enclosure and see if it works or get yourself a new enclosure (I can recommend the icy box enclosure: Icy Box IB-AC640-C3) and see if it works. Either way would tell you which is the issue, the dr...

Re: External LG-BU40N has stopped being recognized in Windows.

So, it wasn't the cable's fault. I just tested it with a new one.
If anyone hasn't got another idea, I guess I should buy a new drive?
Although I can't understand what happened, one minute it worked fine, and the other, just like that, not!

External LG-BU40N has stopped being recognized in Windows.

Hello. I have an external LG-BU40N Firmware v1.03mk, in Slim Vantec Enclosure, UHD Friendly drive, for 4 years now. Today, after some ups and downs during the last days, it seems it stopped being recognized by Windows (10). I checked both on my pc and on my laptop. Nothing! The drive isn't there in ...

Re: Struggling to read UHD on BU40N

Since you've had the drive for a few years, it is possible the drive's optics are a little dirty. You could try gently cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloths. See Billycar11's post: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=162931#p162931 Thanks for your reply, and trying t...

Re: Struggling to read UHD on BU40N

I was told by Criterion to: Double check to make sure your firmware is up-to-date Can I do that? update the firmware I mean. This drive came pre-flashed, and I don't know how to do these things. maybe install the 1.05 firmware from here? https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-BU40N.AVAA10B But I'm...

Re: Struggling to read UHD on BU40N

So right now, you have 1 UHD that your drive doesn't recognize? Does your computer see it but MakeMKV doesn't? Or neither sees the disc? And if you put a different disc in the drive, it works? If that's the case, it would suggest gently cleaning the problematic disc. My pc doesn't see it at all. It...

Re: Struggling to read UHD on BU40N

I have the same drive (flashed on firmware version 1.03mk) I 'm trying now The Others Criterion UHD, and it doesn't load at all, as the poster's above. I had watched it though once, one month ago. Other UHDs (and 2 other Criterions) I have tried load successfully. What do I do now? :( I have purchas...

Re: Flash Gordon 40th Anniversary 4K (Studio Canal)

I have an LG-BU40N and I also have problems reading the disc. My drive won't simply recognize it. But, makemkv, recognizes it. Right now, I'm ripping the UHD to my drive. Hope it doesn't "kill" my drive or whatever, as I've read here, and it rips without errors. Has anyone managed to make ...

OK. Just wanted to let you know...
Thanks again!! I paid for makemkv and voila!
My UHDs are playing with both VLC and MPC. (although I don't see any integration for MPC in the software).

Re: How can I play UHD on the fly on my pc?

An alternate solution is to rip instead to play it on-the-fly. In Makemkv you can rip to folder and then play it. You can also then make an ISO with Imgburn and load the ISO with VitualCloneDrive. But that's not on-the-fly. Yes, thanks, I know about that. I've already ripped one UHD but I don't wan...

See posts from dcoke22 and asmcom. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27849&p=121020&hilit=paid+version#p121020 Thank you. So, subscription is needed for the VLC integration. If I do this, then I will be able to play my UHDs with VLC without a problem you think? I have...

How can I play UHD on the fly on my pc?

Hello. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. (please move it if it is) In the past I could play some UHD discs with MPC-HC or VLC but now it seems impossible. I have an external drive LG-BU40N with firmware v1.03mk. My pc's specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte Z590 Vision G, CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K 3...

Re: Stand By Me 4k aacs 2.1/c v70

I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread to post but I just bought the UK 4K Bluray of this film. I understand there is another protection in this disc, and when I try to play it on the fly with VLC i get pixelation every few seconds. Is there anything I can do, to play this film without this problem? ...
