Re: Do I need a specific drive to rip a non-UHD BluRay? Or wait and get one that can rip UHD too?

You can use an old, inexpensive drive to read blu-ray discs that are were not published within the last 2-3 years. The drive would not need to be able to read UHD discs, or be LibreDrive enabled. For the newest blu-ray discs with AACS version 82 and for UHDs, you would need a drive that is UHD/Libre...

Re: Prospect (2018) and outgassing

You do not need to use any special types of cloth. Just wash the disc and the case (warm water and some dish detergent). Dry with a cotton cloth (dish towel, handkerchief, cloth napkin, etc.) Let the case air dry for a while, then dust it off with another lint-free cloth. Microfiber doesn't do anyth...

Re: Suggestions on backing up old self written DVDs

The files almost certainly are not encrypted, so you should be able to copy the files the usual way. You should verify the copies using hashes. (First copy the files from the discs to a hard drive, then calculate hashes of the files on the DVD discs, then compare with hashes of the copies.)

Possibly, but what is more predictable is the ability for supply to catch up with the spike in demand.

Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02

Yes, the latter drive is so old. But newer drives (in my experience) also are not LibreDrive enabled until the firmware is replaced. So it seems there is a very small proportion of LG drives manufactured during a couple of years that are LibreDrive enabled with their original firmware. Older or newe...

Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02

I just checked my notes and realized that my LG UH12NS40, manufactured April, 2016, was indicated as LibreDrive enabled with its "Original (unpatched)" firmware. But my LG BH30N, manufactured June, 2010, is not LibreDrive enabled (which is more typical in my experience prior to replacing f...

Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02

I just wonder how LibreDrive was enabled for this without updating the firmware. The LG drives that I have used with stock firmware do not have LibreDrive enabled until the firmware is replaced.

Re: Beware - BU50N or BU40N

There are all sorts of BS listings for optical drives on eBay. For a while I was seeing a lot of broken-English listings of things like "LG WH16NS40 compatible". "Compatible"? One listing was supposedly an early version of a blu-ray drive model that does not actually support blu-...

Re: Pioneer Drives from Aliexpress

Try asking if they will accept a batch of sealed, expired COVID19 test kits with new fake dates on them for a fake blu-ray drive.

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery

I use ddrescue with USB adapters (only), and it is fine. Two of my adapters are Unitek, and they are good for full capabilities -- reporting drive information and for flashing. I also have a Benfei, and it behaves the same, though without the requirement for the USB connection to the host or hub bei...

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery

I have a Unitek adapter with AC power and it turns out to require a powered USB connection for the data transfer. In other words, connecting this to a hard drive or optical drive, the adapter needs to have its AC connection as well as the USB connector going to a powered port.

So I'm thinking about buying a UHD blu ray burner from ebay (shipping from china)

Firmware is pre 12/2022, and its a UHD model. Here's the info. Its a Pioneer BDR-S11JX drive.
The seller in China actually sent you the MakeMKV information about the drive?

Re: LibreDrive for normal/non-UHD blu-rays?

What is a safe upper limit for the pressing date of a blu-ray disc to insert into an old optical drive without causing a revocation if the latest version of MakeMKV is used?

The internal serial numbers for LG drives differ from what is on the chassis. Is your drive an MT1939 platform?

Re: Super slooooooooooowwwww site

The Cloudflare error pages that were displayed over most of yesterday indicated that the connection through Cloudflare was fine, but the forum server was not responding. That suggests that Cloudlare was responding normally, and probably fighting DDOS attacks as usual, but the forum server was having...
