Cleaned discs and no effect. It happens literally half a second after starting the process so I didn't think it was a cleaning problem. You can add to the list the UK release of Gladiator too. Also I noticed that out of the 4 titles, not only are they all Universal, but 3 out of the 4 have the Plays...

If your PC is taking 35-40 minutes to make the mkv then I would look at your DVD drive as causing the problem. Either it is an old model, having trouble reading discs, or it could be speed locked for ripping. This is quite common, restricting the speed to 1.5-2x when ripping. I know my Pioneer drive...

As far as I'm aware, mkv's don't support DVD menus. At least not yet...
You should find that the chapter points are there though, so to access scenes, you need to start playing and then skip to the relevant chapter point.
