Can you un-tar the tar file? Or are you on Windows? I'm guessing the .bin file is inside. If you are on Windows, you can use 7zip to unpack the tar file.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hi, I bought a used WH16NS40 and stupidly updated the firmware to 1.05 and now wont recognize any dvd i put in it, its a 2014 model. I tried recovering the drive but I am at a loss for how to select the current "wrong" firmware when you select recover. If you are trying the SDFTool as des...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2021
So, I have a WH14SN40 that I just bought (February 2021). I noticed that the guide here says to flash to 1.02, but the latest mkv firmware version is 1.05 (which is the same as the firmware on my drive). Do I use the 1.02 if I want to do UHD? Also, I assume this drive is encrypted. Am I correct? Th...

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Okay, I've read the whole thread here and have a couple of questions. I have an older (2013) LG WH14NS40 that got flashed with NS50 firmware. I want to try to recover it using SDFTool. In the first post, the firmware it says to use for recovering old LG drives is DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin.zip. Am I ok...

Re: Help an idiot with a 1st gen WH14NS40
Sorry, Billy. Don't mean to be annoying. Just so many threads here it's hard to navigate through them all. I'm reading the SDFTool thread now.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 11:48 am5th time

Re: Help an idiot with a 1st gen WH14NS40
Count me in to that group that got suckered by the LG website. I read their readme files from top to bottom and they never mention anything about the different models. Almost like they want to forget the NS40 versions ever existed though they won't change the stupid model number. Even if they've dis...

Re: Need help with an older LG drive
Excellent. Thank you. Now I will proceed to follow the other guides here to see if I can get it reading again.

Re: Need help with an older LG drive
If it is from 2013, it is one of the older drives. Ok, thanks. But what does that mean? If it's an older drive, should it be using the NS40 firmware? Were there any NS50 drives in 2013? All I want to do is flash it back to whatever it came with or something that will get it reading discs again. Bruce

Need help with an older LG drive
I'm trying to identify my drive in more detail. It's an LG WH14NS40 and I've tried flashing it with some newer firmware and now it can't read discs. I replaced it and moved it to an external enclosure so I can keep working on it. When I pulled it out, I see that it was manufactured in Jul of 2013. M...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2021
I have a LG WH14NS40 Svc NS50. I had updated the drive to the official LG firmware 1.05 using their flasher at which time the drive stopped reading any discs. I found this forum and the YouTube video for downgrading the firmware using the DE firmwares. From Linux, I ran makemkvcon to try and downgr...
