Re: forced subtitle not present

Yes, that's what I've meant. The 2 minutes clip you provided was enough to determine that the only German subtitle track inside the VOB in fact DOES contain forced items. Apparently MakeMKV does not check for flags in DVDs (I don't think I have ever ripped a DVD with it) so you need to do this manua...

Re: forced subtitle not present

You could use DVD Shrink to rip a short clip where Chinese is spoken with all tracks and upload this so people can have a look.

Re: MKV will play with VLC, not on TV, others do.

You're probably better off getting a cheap Android media player or a Raspi 4 than wasting time and energy on conversion (if space is not the issue).

Re: Forced Subtitle Only Selection Rule

-sel:all,+sel:(deu|eng|nolang),-sel:(core),-10:(forced*(eng)),-15:(deu),-20:(forced*(deu))

pretty reliably gets me only English and German audio and subs.

Re: Forced Subtitles

But it is there. When I look at The Sopranos in MakeMKV there are two English tracks, and one is marked as forced. On the resulting MKV there are two English tracks, and neither is marked as forced. Setting setFirstForcedSubtitleTrackAsDefault="true" in the preferences file should make th...

Re: MakeMKV - Audio and Subtitles preview

Why not play back the BD (in VLC) and cycle through the subs so as to know which is which?

Re: Central subtitle rip/don't rip info???

Nice find! I've just checked this and it seems to be accurate

PGS1:
1836 items in Mediainfo
917 items in BDSup2Sub

PGS2:
40 items in Mediainfo
20 items in BDSup2Sub

Looks like yet another method for Mike to implement an automatic recognition of forced subs that aren't flagged.

Re: How much a subtitle or audio track take?

You can use TSMuxer to extract the sub from the m2ts or MKVCleaver to extract it from the MKV to see how large it is. It's usually pointless to skip it cause it's so small.

But if you watch the movie, not once do you see the subtitle track so why are they selected?
Because of the default settings of MakeMKV. You can set them according to your needs.

Don't remember that being the case on my girlfriend's FireTV. In any case, you can playback a movie, select the tracks you want and then save this as default.

Re: Subtitle default mkv flag handling

But, some discs are very special and have a huge number of forced subtitles (f.e. Narcos). Right, but wouldn't the language in that case help as the second identifier? You'd ignore all the other small subtitle streams but of your preferred languages. I work around the mess by having MakeMKV rip eve...
