Re: Washed-Out DVD's Subtitles
I just realized changing the values manually as I thought will not work, even if I manage to alter the "IDX" files, they will not look correctly afterwards. Thats because each subtitle image has its own color and transparency info. This remind me of a bug of the WDTV back in the day where...

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
I guess because enough of us bought different releases and didn’t run into the problem, with both old and new versions of MakeMKV as I confirmed above. So, does anyone know how many releases exist, and why? Probably money, right? I guess the industry just hopes to sell the same movie over again, cu...

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
Right, I was suggesting a workaround cause short of uploading the entire disc as ISO I'm afraid people won't be able to reproduce this effect faithfully. He could upload a short clip of 00002.m2ts from 4:33 to 4:56 where Na'vi is spoken, using TSMuxer's Split & Cut function (dropping all unneces...

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
Thanks dcoke22 - glad you knew how to do that :-) I already told you how to do that: You could open the correct playlist (check with BDInfo) in TSMuxer and demux the subtitle track and upload it (zipped with a password) to Mega or something so people can check it out. but now that dcoke22 has done ...

Re: Planet of the Apes Trilogy Subtitle Issues
If all else fails demux the tracks with TSMuxer and check each track in BDSUP2SUB.

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
Like I said, I've check the entired subtitle track for this and on my BD there isn't an item like this. You could still upload your demuxed subs so we can have a look.

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
The German version has no SDH subs in either track and as I've just confirmed with the scenes you provided there's also no 'speaking na'vi' before what's actually being said.

Re: Laputa - No usabel subtitles found in the MKV result file
You could set up Win 10 in a Virtualbox machine and install it there. Microsoft's Media Creation Tool lets you download an ISO to install from and as long as you don't activate you can use it freely.

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
but there are a couple spots where just before the subtitles appear it prints "Speaking in Navi:" and the font changes to something different and appears in a different location. Had to dig out my German Avatar BD which contains Theatrical Version, Extended Theatrical Version and Extended...

Re: Planet of the Apes Trilogy Subtitle Issues
Actually, you can simply play back the movie in VLC and cycle through the tracks. If you don't see subs when someone is talking you most likely already have found the forced sub. Just skip to the singing scene and verify this. Once you've converted the movie to MakeMKV you can use MKVToolnix's heade...

Re: forced subtitle not present
Like Woodstock's been over in countless threads, there's basically 2 ways to have forced subtitles on BDs and DVDs: - a separate track with only the forced items (which are not flagged as such) - one track with all items, some of which are flagged as forced Since the MKV standard does not allow for ...

You can get details for MKVs with Mediainfo, just switch to text output and post it here.

Re: forced subtitle not present
Yes, that's what I've meant. The 2 minutes clip you provided was enough to determine that the only German subtitle track inside the VOB in fact DOES contain forced items. Apparently MakeMKV does not check for flags in DVDs (I don't think I have ever ripped a DVD with it) so you need to do this manua...
