Re: UHD and BW-16D1HT

Please post the full LibreDrive information section (in text).

EDIT: Never mind since the problem is not being able to read/detect some disc(s). (Basically, try a different copy and/or another drive/model -- preferably a Pioneer one.)

See viewtopic.php?p=203364#p203364

Replace the value to use for sdf_Stop with what is found in your log file.

Re: not reading bluray (but on windows yes)

Put the following line in ~/.MakeMKV/settings.conf:

Code: Select all

sdf_Stop = "HL-DT-ST_BDDVDRW_GGC-H20N_1.01_20070918123456_K1779482558"

Re: Issue with pc dvd usb player reading specific dvds

Ah, I totally forgot Europe et al. is also Region 2 (coz I'm in Asia).

Anyway, my point was I feel like Region 1 releases are seemingly the worst (among 0-3; have no experience at all with the others).

Re: Fury of the dragon DVD - cannot read

There have been saying that BU40N needs 1.00 to work properly (in some cases?) in Linux. Not sure if it's true for DVDs though.

Can VLC or mpv (with libdvdcss installed) play the DVD? If so maybe you'd want to try dvdbackup.

Re: My BU40N HATES StudioCanal

How are you powering the drive? If the host has a USB-C port, maybe try to connect the USB-SATA adapter to it (through a C-A adapter; or get one that has a USB-C plug).

(I've also seen USB-SATA adapters from Orico that come with a 5V USB-C power-in...)

Re: Issue with pc dvd usb player reading specific dvds

Also mpv, plays movie fine with makemkv backend.

Neither vlc nor mpv uses makemkv for DVD decryption, as libdvdread is not coded to use / try libmmbd (instead of libdvdcss) like libbluray does (instead of libaacs). (libmmbd is not a drop-in replacement for libdvdcss anyway.)

Form original bn11 to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BN11-0M00300-211711201351.bin
simple write, no recover. I'm not sure if you'll need this step if you go for an bu40 1.00 or bu40 1.03mk after that.

Re: E.T. extra-terrestrial UHD disk (ET40TH_UPK5) : never stop analysing the disk, too many sync errors

MakeMKV has a bundled list of disc/key identifiers which is checked before creating a full vs partial disc dump file. This check is independent of the private data contents.

Interesting.

Re: E.T. extra-terrestrial UHD disk (ET40TH_UPK5) : never stop analysing the disk, too many sync errors

Trashing the private data and disabling internet access won't be enough to force MakeMKV to generate a complete disc dump file for an arbitrary AACS 2.x disc.

Hmm, I thought a dump will be made as long as MakeMKV has no key to decrypt a disc. (And unlike AACS 1.0, MakeMKV cannot "synthesize ...

Re: DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO 5.1 lossless playback

But I found out that DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO 5.1 does not have same quality as on my PS5. Bass tone is muddy a lot when decoding in DTS Core compatibility mode, worse than track 2 in my feel.

What are you comparing against the PS5 though? Are you even sure it's really just decoding the DTS Core ...

Re: VLC cannot play one specific Blu-ray (AACS v76), but MakeMKV opens it successfully

True, and AFAIK (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) whereas MakeMKV needs the VUK to decrypt a disc, libaacs (and Xreveal) seem to work fine with just the Unit Keys, which is why as long as you can use FindVUK to get the Unit Keys for a UHD Blu-ray disc, you can then use Xreveal *and ...

Seemingly yes: https://ad.impress.co.jp/special/pioneer1211/ (although what I have isn't the Japan S08J model/variant, but S08XLT; AFAIK they share the same firmware though)
