Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
All well meant but I have sent information to make his drive UHD capable. No chance w/o flashing to UHD. Hmm I thought drive without UHD capable firmware will not "see" UHD disc when inserted? Or do you mean some UHD firmware is bugged or so? I have sent information to make his drive UHD ...

Re: Is Backup on a DVD a perfect 1:1 ISO copy?
It kinda depends on how you define 1:1. Decrypted backup obviously can't be 1:1 because what's on the disc is encrypted. But if your definition is like "is the decrypted data exactly what got encrypted by the disc maker", then I guess most of the time the answer is yes -- CSS/AACS decrypti...

Re: Possible Bug Report: MakeMKV 1.18.3 for Windows
Being curious again: what's the exact errors in the log? Does it fail like it cannot begin the ripping process at all, or does it fail like errors show up at some point in the middle of the process? And does running as admin help this time?
Btw, does playback with VLC fail as well?

Re: Ripping DVDs to ISO - Is MakeMKV the best option?
To be frank, IMHO if you are really paranoid about stuff, at the end of the day the only "solution" is to cross-check as much as you can. There's the tool `cmp` in addition to the various hashes in the Linux / unix-like world. Pretty sure you can find something similar for Windows (probabl...

Re: Fedora 44 (FFmpeg 8) incompatibility
Fedora 44 ships ffmpeg 8.x (libavcodec.so.62), but the pre-built makemkv-bin binary requires libavcodec.so.61 (ffmpeg 7.x). I don't think the latter part of the above statement is true / the issue: $ readelf --dynamic makemkv-bin-1.18.3/bin/amd64/makemkvcon Dynamic section at offset 0x7b6350 contai...

Interesting. What exactly are the three updates? (Not a staff member or anything. Just an intrigued nobody.)
Btw is the drive connected to a SATA port or a USB bridge? (Or is it a portable drive?)

Re: Pioneer UD04FAL
If you find the new firmware please contact Billycarr11. Need that firmware to enable UHD for UD03. I've turned over every stone possible on the internet and yet to find the newest UD04 firmware. Did the UD04 come bare or did it come in a enclosed case? If in a enclosed case what brand is it? So it...

Re: Will any blu ray drive work for HD?
AFAIK theoretically you can use any blu-ray drive to rip regular BD with MakeMKV. However there have been reports that recent version(s) are problematic with non-LibreDrive. (With that said there seems to be ways to work around the regression in addition to using an older version.) Also I think non...

See if opening the disc once with VLC (and do not eject it) before ripping helps.

Re: ASUS SBW-06D2X-U not working
Recent version(s) seems to have regression for non-LibreDrive. You can try adding: sdf_Stop = "ASUS_SBW-06D2X-U_A102_212106281341_MO3O68G4321" to ~/.MakeMKV/settings.conf (create the file if it doesn't exist). Can also try to downgrade to 1.17.7 or 1.17.6. Or crossflash the drive with a Li...

Re: Confused over frame rates being changed
The "packetizer" Basically it means that MakeMKV is not muxing MPEG-2 stream in a very nice / proper way, so (as per my understanding) VLC needs to sort of "redo" part of the muxing "on-the-fly" (through inspecting headers in the stream by itself). VLC is at fault rega...

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Sure, but what's weird is that I've tried three different enclosures with four different drives. Only one drive doesn't like being on USB and it doesn't matter which USB enclosure it's in. The other three drives work perfectly fine in all three USB enclosures. FWIW, the bus encryption flags of the ...

Re: Confused over frame rates being changed
Okay, I figured it all out, at least for MPEG-2 video stream. mkvtoolnix has nothing to do with the problem. VLC does. First of all, the "precision loss" is introduced in the VLC code: https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/3.0.23/modules/demux/mkv/matroska_segment_parse.cpp#L333 https://git...
