Re: Flashing firmware on a Mac for LibreDrive
So the ASUS needs to be flashed to work on my iMac. All flashing firmware that can be found on the MakeMKV website is only suitable for Windows. I can't imagine I'm the only one with this problem? Is there no one who can explain to me how I can solve this problem? Start reading from here: https://f...

Re: Flashing firmware on a Mac for LibreDrive
I have a question regarding the ASUS BW-16D1HT that I want to run on an Imac from 2010 with macOS High Sierra. I would strongly suggest mentally working from the other end first, which I did not. I spent too much time and $ getting a 4K/UHD drive into an external enclosure, getting the drive flashe...

Re: LG BU40N region relevance
IF I'm reading your issue correctly, the FW change doesn't make the drive "region free" (or region specific). That's always been a native function of MakeMKV & won't necessarily extend to other apps. FW just (re-) enables LibreDrive functionality in MakeMKV. A-ha! Here is the problem....

Re: LG BU40N region relevance
ask dvdfab i guess u bet it would work on makemkv Hard to interpret that sentence. DVDFab is not the issue, as multiple applications see the drive as Region 1. Apple's DVD Player even offers to reset the region. Ergo, the issue is within the drive, the firmware flash not having properly set it to R...

Re: LG BU40N region relevance
makemkv should get around it what are the errors? I do not use makemkv, other than for the initial firmware flash. I use DVDFab (BD/UHD) and MDRP (DVD) for full disk copying to ISOs on a Mac. Both applications and Apple's DVD Player reject the Region 2 DVDs, as the drive reports as Region 1. A prio...

Re: LG BU40N region relevance
The region of firmware you flash does not matter And makemkv makes the drive region free I flashed my LG BU40N long ago and posted the route to success on a Mac. Now I have my first non-Region 1 discs (DVDs; Region 2) and the drive is rejecting them. How is it that the 'downgrade' to firmware v1.00...

Re: Attempting to flash in macOS
You must have a preference for accessing menus and whatever special features there are on the disc? Personally, I find getting rid of the menus to be a benefit. I prefer to rip the movie to a .mkv file and leave the rest behind. Some stuff I further compress to 10-bit HEVC or h.264 files. In any ca...

Re: Attempting to flash in macOS
Out of curiosity, what do you do with the ISO? Do you have a player that plays ISOs? It can be mounted, which then appears as a virtual disc that the Mac OS does not differentiate from a physically mounted disc, or just played as a file. Which method depends on which player application you use. I h...

Re: Attempting to flash in macOS
I have successfully copied (to an ISO image) the film '1917' from a UHD disc, using my MacBook Pro mid-2012, an external BU40N flashed to FW 1.00, and DVDFab 11.0.7.5. That said, I never attempted to extract a UHD under the stock FW of BW42. This was the first UHD I had in hand, and it arrived after...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2020
*If* you will be using DVDFab, do not upgrade to a MK firmware at all. Stay on 1.00.bobby121418 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:19 pmMy question is which firmware to upgrade following the downgrade with DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin?

Re: BU40N - Which firmware is best?
if only we all read my guide where its all linked its almost like i made it for no reason While the guide is much appreciated, finding it and locating the resources are nowhere near as straightforward as they could be. If the forum's board index had a 'download' section, with Windows and Mac sub-se...

Re: How to downflash ASUS BW-16D1HT on macOS?
I successfully flashed a BU40N on a MacBook Pro (OS X.13.6) in an external enclosure down to firmware 1.00 (*without* a VM, Windows, etc.). You can read about it, starting at about post #25 here:

I also successfully flashed my BU40N on a MacBook Pro using this generic, low-quality, low-cost USB3 enclosure from AliExpress:
