Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
follow-up re p7 FEL on UHD discs: I contacted a colleague who works in the industry and he contacted his Dolby contact. He stated that final color information in p7 FEL is 12bit 420 , although he admitted that there's ongoing confusion about this (this person does not work directly on the DV en/deco...

no, not necessarily, but with FEL the differences will be more obvious when testing.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 1:22 amAlso, are you saying that MEL would look identical in player-led and tv-led ?
How easy it is to spot these differences also depends on the content.

Re:
Can you force P-led on X700+LG through Vertex thing? If so you shouldn't rely on my pictures at all and can see difference by your own eyes So after my latest reply, I decided to give another go to my Vertex. and btw I'm not relying on your picture at all.. I'm just saying that your comparisons wit...

shield image has incorrect hue/saturation on the beak (compared to tv-led), besides the color artifacts/clipping

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I say this because we can play a fel real uhd disc in LLDV is that producing a less imperfect image than the dv rgb8 FEL ?sending the meta I’m not sure 100% on that part of the equation. there is no DV metadata being sent with LLDV. The metadata was already used by the device to create the DV image...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
So which players are capable of playing FEL remuxes from network sources (Plex/Emby/SMB), e.g. the full deal retaining the 12bit 4000nits final picture like when playing the original disc? e.g. remuxed into a TS or MKV container so I can add a high def audio track? Oppo with (free) Russian firmware...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
and here's more... there are only two (2) DV streams: 1) 8bit RGB via tunneling (for STD tv-led, as it contains both BL+EL data) 2) 12bit 422 for everything else (LLDV player-led, MEL, or single layer profiles) IF (!) the actual max chroma subsampling was 420, then the 2nd stream variant above would...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I’m off to get some popcorn for round 2, this is freakin’ awesome you want more ? here is an encore... :D most folks here are forgetting that 12bit 422 ONLY ever comes into play for profile 7 FEL - not even profile 7 MEL (10bit 420). All the gazillion other DV profiles are all 420 drained sauce for...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
420 is not wrong, the patent specs also only mention 12 bit YCbCr 420 reconstructed output. As for the HDMI transmission, it is detailed as 12 bit YCbCr 422 because the metadata is also transported into the least significant bits . first off, nobody said 420 is "wrong" - that is your word...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Do you suggest me to search for a proof for your statement? Really? :D I would rather not spend time on this misconception. you don't seriously think anybody here will spend more time educating about something that you've not done your research for. but you can always "believe" what you w...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I'm fairly familiar with RGB tunneling and what having a FEL is relative to a base layer (The blu-ray.com link I posted is also not the one with the title listings). Not doubting you, but just wanted to see your source for where it states that the reconstructed picture from an FEL is 12bit 422 inst...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Very interesting, I would like to know where you learnt this since the public Dolby vision paper doesn't really make mention of this at all. In fact, while it does mention FEL it doesn't actually describe what FEL means. But it only lists profile 7 as 1:1/4 (4:2:0.) and makes no mention of either 1...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
7 theoretically allows for 12 bit colour with supported titles, while 8.1 does not. However you might find that profile 7 MEL (10 bit colour) works while profile 7 FEL (12 bit colour) does not. If neither works you might try 8.1. Outside of the 12 bit colour both 7 and 8.1 should present the same v...
