After a few more experiments I can also copy CD's to FLAC and it can copy from all of the DVD's I have tried so far....

Good job Marty, Thanks for the excellent service yesterday and today, ordered yesterday morning and the LG drive turned up this afternoon. Plugged it into my old Mac running big sur and it was working straight away backing up a copy of one of my blu-ray disks, no drivers or anything were required 8)...
