Re: Trying to convert The Matrix (1999) W/S version
Why not just open the DVD directly in MakeMKV? dvdbackup seems more reliable, and makemkv sometimes seems finicky. I'm using a USB CD-ROM, and sometimes makemkv has problems with it. I'm not blaming makemkv for my problem, as it's occurring (I think) before I run makemkv. Thanks for your reply. Upd...

Trying to convert The Matrix (1999) W/S version
I first use dvdbackup in Linux to decrypt the DVD, and then use MakeMkv to convert the data to mkv files. This has been working 100% of the time until this particular DVD. I noticed that dvdbackup retrieved 4 CSS keys: VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_0.VOB VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_1.VOB VIDEO_TS/VTS_03...

[SOLVED] Fake Title/Navigation Error
Until quite recently, I could rip DVDs in Linux on my Chromebook, using a USB powered external CD/DVD-ROM. The USB port is 3.2, so plenty of power should be available. I recently installed the latest Linux version. Now, every DVD I insert gives me the dreaded "Fake Title" error. I've enabl...

Re: Simple hack makes USB DVD drive usable
Question: Are you building MakeMKV, or using one of the "packaged" versions? Another user was commenting that the snap package was not getting permission to read removable media, and that editing its permissions made it work. This work-around seems similar. No, not using a snapd package. ...

Re: Simple hack makes USB DVD drive usable
Why do you need to do this? I can rip using a DVD with no issues. Right. There seem to be a lot of issues using external USB DVD drives. In my case, if I don't do this first, I can't rip the DVD. I cannot tell you why this works, but it does. Whenever I open MakeMKV, it says, "Cannot find usab...

Simple hack makes USB DVD drive usable
Summary: Before attempting to rip a DVD with MakeMKV, first point mplayer at the link to the main video at ../VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.IFO and watch several seconds of the video. Example: Suppose my user name is foo, and the disk name is FE_FI_FO_FUM. Insert the DVD into the USB drive and wait for it to au...
