Any 16" MacBook owners use Apple Compressor?
As per the title, I''m looking for any 2019 16" MacBook owners who have or use Apple's Compressor application. The reason I ask is, because, I've just completed a 28-hour! transcode of a 4K HDR BluRay due to the lack of hardware acceleration in Handbrake on Mac OS X. Admittedly I used the defau...

South Park Season 12 BD-HD
I have a problem with South Park Season 12 in that it appears to have undergone "telecine" because the discs contain video stored at 29.97 FPS, but the source animation appears to have been 24 (23.98) FPS. This results in 2 out of 5 filler frames that appear as shadow mergers between the e...

Re: Support IINA.app in Integration under MakeMKV preferences
IINA is a great player, but it's still missing a few features. I can't access a DVD's menu and view bonus content, it only plays the main (longest?) title. I'd like a DRC option in the equaliser as well.
Other than that it's great.

Re: HDR colour profile support on Mac
Makes sense then. The one I ripped was European and the others are probably ripped from American discs. Australia too is a PAL region if I'm not mistaken, so does that mean we get an extra frame rate on discs made for the local market? :D I'm no closer to figuring out which peak brightness the other...

Re: HDR colour profile support on Mac
I assume when you say QuickView you mean the thing Apple calls Quick Look ( https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/preview-files-with-quick-look-mh14119/mac ) where you highlight a thing in Finder and hit the space bar. Do you have MediaInfo ( https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo ) installed? What ...

HDR colour profile support on Mac
I've noticed differences in the labelling of colour profiles between some UHD movies I acquired from the inter-webs and those I ripped myself with MKV and Handbrake. For the ones I downloaded, the metadata lists the colour profile as BT.2020 PQ (9-16-9), and for the one I ripped myself it's stated a...

Re: Correct way to convert 4k HDR rips?
I’d really love to test a full 10-bit HDR pipeline, but I’m a total noob when it comes to ffmpeg. I ripped a 10-bit concert DVD in Handbrake software mode, and I’m very happy with the results. I think you have to be clinically insane to want more than I already managed to achieve, bu. **plot twist**...

Re: Processing UHD rips with Handbrake or other software
I too successfully ripped a UHD HDR with Hanbrake nightly build and it is recognised as 10-bit HDR on Apple devices (and looks amazing). The encode took forever in software mode, but it works. 10-bit QSV doesn’t appear to be supported yet, at least on the Mac side, and the 8-bit version doesn’t even...

Re: UHD Friendly & Official drives for sale & flashing service (currently Australia & NZ only)
If you have a decent (and recent) Intel CPU, you could try using Intel's quicksync. It won't be as quick as NVENC but should be quicker than 100% software encoding. My processor is a 9880H (9th-gen Core i9 mobile) courtesy of a 16” MacBook Pro. No idea what that means for H.265 support but I’m almo...

Sadly, that I don't have. I don't tend to rip very often so I guess I'll just have to get used to overnight transcodes at UHD.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Fri Mar 12, 2021 9:11 amYep, decent NVIDIA graphics card and hardware encoding. A movie can be encoded in about 60-90 minutes.

Re: UHD Friendly & Official drives for sale & flashing service (currently Australia & NZ only)
+1 rep for MartyMcNuts! Marty was friendly, prompt and patient with my many questions and delays in payment. I just ripped my first UHD disc successfully and I look forward to others. Now I need to decide on the best transcoding settings. Last time I tried, H.265 took a lot longer to convert but had...

Re: UHD Disc exploded
That's really interesting, thanks. Most of my discs are in mint or near new condition having only been ripped or played a couple of times, so I reckon it's extremely unlikely I'd encounter anything like this. I know when trying to manually break discs in the past (from failed burns etc) it requires ...

Re: UHD Disc exploded
Are there no other replies and possible explanations for this? How is this even possible? I take it the drives are completely destroyed in both instances.
If it's bad firmware can you name the firmware used, and the seller? I've just ordered a drive so now I'm worried!

Re: Pioneer BDR-211EBK
It's a shame that Pioneer drives are so anti-consumer-restricted-locked down-drm heavy etc, because they make what appear to be otherwise decent, attractive, and probably reliable drives. Take this drive* for example. If it was UHD-friendly I would buy it instantly. An external 4K slim slot-loading ...
