Also, if you ever run into a major DVD issue, this program may be of some help : https://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgc ... l#download
(Be warned though, it does require doing some reading on how DVDs actually work.)

Re: makemkv doesn't "see" the first half of first vob file (additional opening modes not availalbe)
You need to go to View -> Preferences -> General and tick "Expert mode", then click on Apply and then on OK, and now "Open DVD files manually" should show up when you click on File. :)
i'm pretty speechless right now - because that worked! i was able to open the dvd manually and have makemkv ...

Re: makemkv doesn't "see" the first half of first vob file (additional opening modes not availalbe)
i tired that with all the protection modes and what it did was it added 1 cell (10 s), but it's still says:
"cells 1-16 were removed from the start"
i think that is what accounts for the missing first 10 minutes of the movie. it's odd that it just seems to be arbitrarily removing those first 16 ...

Re: makemkv doesn't "see" the first half of first vob file (additional opening modes not availalbe)
This may sound crazy, but may I ask what happens if you also set the minimum title length (seconds) in View -> Preferences -> Video to 0 (in addition to trying every protection removal method) ? Does that help in any way ?
ok i tired that with all the protection modes and what it did was it ...

Re: makemkv doesn't "see" the first half of first vob file (additional opening modes not availalbe)
It's in View -> Preferences -> Protection -> Below "DVD" there is something called "DVD structure protection removal method", that's the drop-down menu you want. The various options should be called Auto, CellWalk, CellTrim, and CellFull.
ok thank you for that. i found it and tried all ...

Re: makemkv doesn't "see" the first half of first vob file (additional info)
You could try the different DVD Opening Modes to see if the outcome is different.
i checked out trying to use makeMKV with different opening modes to see if i could get it to "see" my entire DVD. supposedly there are different options for opening modes available in "dvd" tab of the preferences ...

Re: Vlc doesn't play Video from MKV, or plays it washed up
i've had playback issues with the vlc player. if you have future issues with it, i would suggest the free elmedia player. overall it's just a better player (can hover over the timeline to see preview thumbnails) and i've never had issues with it.

makemkv doesn't "see" the first half of first vob file (additional opening modes not availalbe)
i had this issue for the first time with makemkv. makemkv seems to have not "seen" the first half (about 500 MB) of the first vob file. the finished mkv movie simply didn't contain the first approximately 25 minutes of the movie. no error messages were given while makemkv was making the mkv file ...

Re: mac OS says "makeMKV is damaged and can't be opened"
It has been a while since I've used macOS Sierra. I'm pretty sure this is just Apple's Gatekeeper getting in the way. Instead of double-clicking on the app, right-click (or Option click) and select Open. If I remember correctly, it'll open a dialog to try to convince you not to open it, but you ...

Re: ILLEGAL REQUEST:READ OF SCRAMBLED SECTOR
hi guys
i'm getting this "scrambled sector" error. i'm seeing in some of the posts that to get around this one needs to run makeMKV as an administrator. i just have no idea how to do this. do i first need to get the paid version of the app?
i'm running v. 1.15.3 on a mac.
any guidance would be ...
