Try reading a CD and DVD. If it works the red laser is OK.
Try reading a BD. If it doesn't work the blue laser is dead.


I tried to clean it now. Inserted UHD - click click - eject.
BD Disc - same two click noises - eject
empty CD-R - same.
Don't have an DVD atm, lol. Can't test that ...

Pop out the tray. You should see now little glas lenses approx. 2-3 mm in diameter. Use a cotton swab and some alcohol. Wipe them dry with another cotton swab. Try the disc. My good old BD-RE BU40N is now ejecting everything within a few seconds. No Error, nothing. Just a few click clacks and boom, ejected. No message on MakeMKV.

can't rip that movie, I have an BDR-UD04 1.14 which can read the disc but fails, the disc is brand new, got an replacement already, lol.
The second drive BU40N with 0.FR07J can't even open the disc, it ejects it instantly without any message.

i didnt make an comparison yet, just watching the rip speeds when ripping the same TV show, there the pioneer was faster. my BU40N never hit the 8x mark?! But I don't really watch it, I start them both and usually come back some time later ...

it can read so far, im ripping an tv show currently, both drives running same time, great.
Inresting is, the Pioneer is running a bit faster 4,7 than the BU40N 4,3.
Gona try out UHD soon, but it should be able to handle that right?

Thanks for the suggestions and offers! Tomorrow I will receive the Verbatim 43888 and hopefully it works out of the box. Would be the cheapest drive so far that doesn't require flashing at all.
99€ and no flashing sounds to good to be true. I already expected another 1-200€ for the second drive.

You cant cross flash it you will have to buy it from one of the ...

I bought a Verbatim 43888 (Pioneer inside) three weeks ago in EU - came with latest firmware 1.14 (last year or older) and works great.
Already scanned discs, that my internal Asus and Hitachi couldn't read...

Where to get older versions of the firmware? Like 1.01? I’m intrested in crossflashing an BDR-XD07TS to an BDR-XD07TUHD because these are not possible to buy here or they are extremely overpriced.
