Re: iso-to-mkv alternative
you mean realtime recording? i found a suitable way in dvdbackup and avidemux, but this is for remuxing a vob main feature only. also, the resulting mkv is not on par with the ones created by makemkv (lacking text streams, differing kb/s values for the video stream?). any further non-gui alternative...

Re: iso-to-mkv alternative
hi woodstock,
thanks for your input so far.
just to make sure i got that right: so even vlc is really capable of remuxing iso files directly to complete mainmovie.mkvs?

iso-to-mkv alternative
i am curious if there exists alternative possibilities to remux a dvd.iso -> mainmovie.mkv under linux other than makemkv, even at the cost of comfort?

external dvd drive (linux)
i plan to buy a new laptop, which unfortunately will not be shipped with an optical drive anymore.
as far as external drives are concerned, I have no experience at all, so perhaps you can recommend me a dvd drive that is guaranteed to work (especially with makemkv) under linux?
thank you in advance
