Re: Temporary Alternatives.

You could always go back to macOS 15.3.2.

Re: Fairly inexpensive PC for Handbrake use?

That looks like it would work, with a Core i5 12400. That's a decent 6 core CPU with Quick Sync Video if you want to do hardware encoding.

Re: External drive has died. Nhich new one should I get?

I discovered if I hit the drive repeatedly, it sometimes powers on and works for about an hour before it powers off again, resulting in another beating. Its getting worse and worse so I'd rather buy a new one. Just curious, why would I have to buy a drive privately? Are the new drives disabled for ...

Re: I keep getting this error

The first thing to try is to gently clean the disc even if the disc is brand new. I like to use liquid dish soap, plenty of warm water, and a can of air to dry the disc without touching it. There are, however, lots of methods for cleaning a disc.

Put the .tgz file in the cloud somewhere like Google Drive and email in a file sharing link.

Re: Unique Disc ID

http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=926221 It seems, according to that thread, that DVD Profiler depends on something in Windows to generate a disc ID for DVDs. That thread is mostly about how a version of Windows 10 apparently changed how that was calculated so the new ve...

If the testing zittrig suggests proves that the drive is indeed dead, perhaps talk with Bluntman, a seller on this forum helping out his fellow Canadians. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=21354

Re: Fairly inexpensive PC for Handbrake use?

My current machine I use for encoding is an M2 Pro Mac mini. It has 10 cores & 10GB ethernet and I paid about $1100 for it on the Apple refurbished store a little more than a year ago. That M2 Pro 10 core CPU gets a Geekbench multicore score of 12,395 and a Passmark Multithread Score of 21,855 ....

Re: Migration UHD multiple titles and files

The single large file is almost assuredly just the film.

DVDCompare.net can helpful in figuring out what's on a disc: https://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=67751

https://thediscdb.com can also be helpful, but it doesn't seem to have Migration (2023).

Re: Fairly inexpensive PC for Handbrake use?

Apple Silicon CPUs are relatively easy to understand. The current CPUs are the M4 models. Before the M4, there was the M3, and the M2 before that and the first was the M1. Inside each family there's 3 models (sometimes 4). There's the vanilla M# chip (e.g. M4), then there's the Pro chip (e.g. M4 Pro...

Re: 50% success rate with older drive

That's cool. And a worthwhile last ditch effort to save some scratched DVDs. For posterity, it is worth noting that generally speaking, the coating on DVDs is different than on blu-rays. There's more coating on a DVD, but the coating on a blu-ray is more abrasion resistant. Things might not work exa...

If you want to use Intel Quick Sync Video to do hardware encoding, Wikipedia has a handy chart showing which CPU generations support which parts of Intel Quick Sync. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video#Hardware_decoding_and_encoding For instance, if you want to do 10-bit h.265 encod...

Re: Is it possible to rip a 4K UHD Bluray into SDR instead of HDR?

I'm new to all this, so apologize in advance. Today I installed Make MKV and ripped my copy of Star Wars The Force Awakens, only to find out that it ripped in HDR. I have an HDR monitor capable of displaying it, but I was wondering if it would be possible to rip it into SDR instead of HDR? MakeMKV ...
