Re: Backup and change audio in FFMPEG

do you know of a good guide or can you point me in the right direction? https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4776 MakeMKV has this notion of 'conversion profiles' for audio. While a .mkv file is being made, the conversion profile is employed to convert audio to a different forma...

Re: Backup and change audio in FFMPEG

My home theater receiver can't decode DTS-HD or TrueHD lossless audio, so I convert those audio tracks to FLAC when I create the .mkv file with MakeMKV. My player can decode FLAC and output it as PCM audio, which my receiver can play.

Re: Fatal Error on M1 Mac

There's not a lot to go on in the original post. Generally, I don't think MakeMKV is supposed to get a 'fatal error' during operation. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24137 The above thread is someone who had a fatal error recently. Some of the debug steps in that thread migh...

Re: File Compression

I recently did the blu-ray Bumblebee (2018). It was a 28GB rip. I turned it into a 7.5GB h.264 file (using Handbrake & Intel QuickSync hardware encoding) and a 3.9GB 10-bit h.265 file (using ffmpeg & x265 software encoder). The h.264 took about 18 minutes because of the hardware encoding. Th...

Re: best way to get small high quality rips?

If you don't want to go down the rabbit hole of transcoding, in the grand scheme of things, DVD rips are relatively small. A 2 hour movie on DVD is usually 5 or 6 GB. A little 2.5" USB powered external hard drive can hold quite a lot of stuff. A 5TB model costs about $100. That would hold 700 -...

Re: Disk cleaning/ firmware reset

http://www.makemkv.com/errors/hashcheck/ It is very unlikely that upgrading macOS to Big Sur changed the firmware on your optical drive. MakeMKV lists the firmware version for your drive, so it is easy to double check. Have you tried completely powering down the drives and powering them back on aga...

Re: getting ATMOS capable audio from BluRay.. HELP!!!

MakeMKV has had support for ATMOS since 1.8.14 in 2014 ( https://www.makemkv.com/download/history.html ). If you have rips from an earlier version of MakeMKV, you will have to rip them again to get ATMOS. I don't think every Plex client supports ATMOS. I don't know what the capabilities of the Plex ...

Re: Question about audio and commentary

In Plex on a movie's details screen, you can pick the default audio track you want to use. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202462186-viewing-item-details/ It'll look like this: audiopicker.jpg The names of the audio tracks ("Director Commentary" for example) come from track's title in the...

Have you considered using mkvpropedit (https://mkvtoolnix.download/doc/mkvpropedit.html) to change the .mkv file's metadata?

Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT replacement

Have you tried cleaning the disc? https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15055 The data density of UHDs is pretty high compared to a regular blu-ray and especially a DVD. Consequently, a drive's ability to cope with any dirt or other interference is less. Even brand new discs can so...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2021

Comparing BU40N and NS40/55 and the Asus, I have the understanding most will be noisy, but which is the least? All have a similar price, and I want to use the drive not just to rip but to play Blu-ray. 6x is probably not cutting it for 4K though. But is the noise better on the slim? Thank ye I have...

Re: Swapping Audio Tracks

MediaInfo suggests that the file sizes are the same, 26.4 GiB. How much different are the file sizes on the filesystem? If it is a small amount, it might just be from changes like this: Before: Encoded date : UTC 2021-04-01 05:57:11 Writing application : MakeMKV v1.16.3 win(x64-release) Writing libr...

Re: MakeMKV Starts The Process But Then Stops

It might be that the power plug is faulty. They usually have the voltage and polarity printed on them somewhere. If you have another power plug that's compatible lying around it might be worth giving it a try in an attempt to narrow down the problem.

Could not get them all done at once.
Are you using 1.16.3? There was a bug in earlier versions of 1.16. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24707
