How is the drive powered? Only via USB?
What that error implies is the computer asked the optical drive to read a spot on the disc and then it waited for the drive to return the data. It never did and eventually the computer timed out waiting for it.

Do you get the same error with several different blu-ray discs?

Re: MakeMKV hangs/freezes when attempting to read disc
Do you have a different drive you can try? Since it is a DVD, just about any drive will work, even an old Apple SuperDrive if you've got one collecting dust in a closet.
I wonder since it is a manufacture on demand disc if it has DVD encryption at all?

Re: UHD drive working on Windows but not on Linux (Ubuntu)
Go to bu40n 1.00 Where can I download the 1.00 firmware? I am having the same issue as the original author but I can't seem to find the 1.00 firmware. All in one firmware pack only has the 1.03MK firmware for the BU40N. Also sorry for necroing this post but I figured it was better than creating a b...

The program's author, Mike, is the only one who has access to the license data. You'll have to email support@makemkv.com to have him help you.

In other threads on this forum I've seen people talk about taking photos of their display as a way to compare things. They set up a camera on a tripod and lock in the photo settings in a completely manual mode (focus, exposure, speed, etc.) so the camera takes photos with the exact same settings. Th...

Re: Posix & Scsi errors lead to failure - is this "structure protection"?
Errors like this Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB' at offset '65536' usually mean the optical drive was unable to correctly read a spot on the disc. DVD players generally try to ignore read errors and hope the visual/audio glit...

What happens if you power cycle the drive? By that I mean completely remove both the power plug and the USB data cable for 20 or 30 seconds, then connected it again and power it up?
In my experience, the LG based drives occasionally get confused and need to be 'rebooted'.

Re: HELP NEEDED - How to RIP from files copied to hard drive
One of the things MakeMKV does is it uses the content hash table that's part of the blu-ray specification to verify that what the optical drive reads is correct. If what was read is incorrect, MakeMKV retries reading the same spot until either the read is correct or the retry limit is reached. When ...

Re: 2 - Brand New WH16NS40 Drives from Newegg????
The reported quality of recent LG desktop drives is low.
It is probably easiest to return the drives and order new ones. Maybe you'll get lucky?
If you're feeling adventurous, you could take the drive apart and clean the optics to see if that helps.

Re: When looking for media files the search is case sensitive for lower case only
When using an operating system where filenames are case sensitive looking for media files only finds files that end in lower case types such as .iso and misses .ISO This must truly trivial to fix. I know that I can just change the filenames to match but that seems clunky. I'm not sure I understand ...

Re: Which drive enclosure should I get for the BU40N?
Has anyone tried the OWC slim enclosure? Looks like it's one of the few available enclosures for slimline drives these days. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/VLSSTOPTU3/ I haven't used that enclosure, but it supports an optional external power adapter: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MOTGPWR...

There's nothing wrong with asking questions. :) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Verbatim-External-Slimline-BluRay-Writer/dp/B07MTP9VKX The Verbatim 43888 has been coming with a BU40N in it lately. It can be flashed as the Flashing Guide explains to support LibreDrive. The last link in my last post is a lin...
