Re: genuine bad disc or issue with makemkv ?

1. MakeMKV cannot open this disc. Does that mean the disc registers in the drive, but MakeMKV can't navigate the disc structure? What happens if you use MakeMKV to make a (decrypted) backup of the disc? Out of curiosity, is this a DVD or a blu-ray? Error 'Posix error - No such device' occurred whil...

There are different DVD Opening Modes you can try.

Also, some recent posts on the forum suggest that some troublesome DVDs seem to work better on version 1.16.7 of MakeMKV. https://www.makemkv.com/download/old/

Re: Super slooooooooooowwwww site

I wonder, is it possible to rate limit how quickly a guest can click through on the forum? I don't know if that'll help and I don't want to make the site unusable for guests, but it is sorta unusable now.

I wonder if someone is very clumsily scraping the site to feed into a training set for a LLM?

Re: Problems with LOTR:FotR Disc 2

I've tried both my copy and a friends copy and they are getting the same error. I've cleaned the disk well with 91% alcohol but still getting the hash error seen in the image. Had it on a few other discs but figured I'd use this as the example. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMt4fadpIsgHjazMa...

Re: Question about non-4K UHD Blu-Ray’s

MakeMKV will work most DVD or regular blu-ray drives for DVDs or regular blu-rays. For 4K UHDs, you'll need a LibreDrive capable drive. If you've got a drive sitting on a shelf, it is a reasonable place to start. There are certain edge cases for DVDs and regular blu-rays where a rip would work with ...

Re: movie stops playing after 33 seconds

I speculate that USB speed could be an issue. 4K movies are pretty big.

Can your PC play the file from the USB stick?

Re: I found a “work-around” solution to “DVDs” that fail when you try to rip…

The Wikipedia page for Freemake Video Converter is interesting. I enjoyed the FFmpeg 'hall of shame' anecdote for being in violation of FFmpeg's license. :D In any case, having more than one optical drive has been handy with my usage of MakeMKV. I've found that some drives just don't like some discs...

Re: Good cost efficient start to Blu Ray rip

MakeMKV will probably work with just about any DVD or regular blu-ray drive to rip DVDs or regular blu-rays. If you don't want to spend a lot of money to start, look in friend's, neighbor's & family member's closets for any old optical drive. An enclosure, like a Vantec , can be purchased to all...

Re: Days of Future Past

MakeMKV's first screen will show you details about the disc, including the number of layers and how much data is on the disc. Also, sites like blu-ray.com typically list disc info in their reviews. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/X-Men-Days-of-Future-Past-Blu-ray/72503/ ^ that says it is a single, tw...

Plex does indeed allow for organizing movies into individual folders. This is how I organize my Plex server. Naming and organizing your Movie files Plex also allows for putting individual files for the 'extras' along with a movie so they can be accessed in the Plex app interface. Local Files for Mov...

Re: Step by step instructions

MKV is a container. It can contain lots of different things. When MakeMKV is used to rip a blu-ray, most commonly the resulting .mkv file contains h.264 encoded video ; a direct copy of what's on the disc. If MakeMKV is used to rip a 4K UHD, the resulting .mkv file contains h.265 encoded video ; ag...

Have any of your drives gotten stuck or broken or anything?
Physically, no. I do have a couple of LG based drives which get confused from time to time and need to be power cycled. Having them in external enclosures with their own power supplies makes recovering from a confused state pretty easy.

Re: Top Load vs Slot Load vs Tray Load

My Pioneer BDR-S13UBK is probably my best drive. It is in a Vantec enclosure and connected via USB. Since I have multiple drives sitting on my desk, I prefer a tray loading drive.

There are different DVD Opening modes. Maybe MakeMKV is getting confused with the default opening mode.
