Has something changed regarding this procedure?
Ever since installing 1.17.9 a few weeks ago, MakeMKV always asks for permission to access removable drives (I have 2 the drive and an external SSD I use for ripping, etc).
I followed these steps and it is still asking.
I am on macOS 15.3.

Re: Third LG WH16 Dead
Thanks.
If I am unable to clean/repair this drive, I will look for a Pioneer.
I have purchased from Bluntman in the past (I am in Canada) and it looks like he has some Pioneer slims available.
Are slim drives less reliable than full size drives?

Re: Third LG WH16 Dead
I have not done that yet as it looks tricky.
The last 3 discs that failed, all failed at around (about) 30GB into the backup. So, I just did a light grease on the rails and screw to see if that helps.
Testing now.

Third LG WH16 Dead
I just had a third LG WH16 drive go bad ("No Disc" error). Obviously, I am wondering if this is just bad luck, or if this drive is known to have reliability issues. Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with this model? Or, recommendations for other brands/models that are might be...

Re: feature request for v1.17.10
+1
This capability would have been helpful for me during the James Cameron releases last year. I went through 3 copies of Aliens and one of the discs had different errors. With this capability, I might have been able to "piece together" a good backup.

Re: makemkv was prevented from modifying apps on your mac
That did not work for me. Whenever I select Handbrake, I get a notification that makemkv was blocked and the item in Application Management is switched off. I tried adding it while the root-launched application was still running and also after a quit and relaunch. The Application Management switch a...

Re: James Cameron UHDs
My second Aliens UHD came and it also has read errors and won't RIP. I decided to try slowing down the drive to see if that would help. It didn't. So I set the speed settings to "0-99" and gave up. Yesterday, before I sent it back to amazon, created an encrypted backup (in case the third A...

Re: Unencrypted Backup from Encrypted Backup
I tried that. I made an iso of the encrypted folder and mounted it. But MakeMKV would not see it as a disk. I was able to open the discatt.dat and extract the movie, but there does not appear to be a way to create a backup of it.

Unencrypted Backup from Encrypted Backup
I have successfully created an encrypted backup of a damaged UHD disc. The backup contains a working discatt.dat file and I am able to use MakeMKV to extract the videos.
Is there a way to create an unencrypted backup from this encrypted backup that I can turn into an .iso?

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux
If I have 2 identical discs that both have errors on them (presumably not the same errors) can I do step 2 with the second disc? Also, I am doing this on macOS and the -d option in step 2 is saying "Direct disc access not available." even though I blessed it with makemkvcon first. If I dro...

Re: James Cameron UHDs
True Lies arrived and the backup worked fine. Unfortunately, the dovi tools seem to be having an issue with the file, but that's a different thread. Edit: Weird. Same ripped file, tools and procedure worked fine the second time with dovi 7 to 8 conversion. I know what we are watching tomorrow night!...

Re: James Camron UHDs
Just received Aliens 4K today from Amazon and I can't do anything with it due to read errors. Tried both backups and a direct rip of both versions, but no luck. I tried cleaning the disc but I am still getting read errors and I don't have a player to test it. Such a let down. UHD Drive is a new LG W...
