How to burn a Blu-ray disc from a backup on Linux ?
Hi Guys, I'm posting here because I do not know where to ask. I've a Blu-ray I love a lot and the disc id dying (a lot of medium errors in a computer drive and seizures in a "plain" player). Fortunately I've made a backup with Make MKV so I've got all the files I need. As the size is less ...

Re: DVD drive naming
Hello, As far as I can tell, MakeMKV does not name drives by itself. It takes the names given by the underlying OS. And the Linux kernel name the first DETECTED drive as /dev/sr0, the next detected one gets /dev/sr1, and so on. Modifying this behaviour to ensure that each drive is and stay the same ...

VLC snap and BD read
Hello Guys, On my Ubuntu laptop, I often read Blu Ray discs I get from the library. Fine. More and more apps are transitioning from .deb packages to snap. So I fear at some point they would remove the deb version entirely. I'm wondering if we will still be able to play Blu Ray discs using VLC as a s...

Re: Help please
Hello, IMHO, replacing the whole PCB is not a good solution. The old one has a memory in it (where the firmware is stored, amongst other things) and these information may pertain precisely to the mechanical part of the drive. Obviously, the other board from the other drive may not be so tuned to the...

Re: (Asmcom:) Pioneer UHD 4K Drives From £117.32, Cheap Shipping, Worldwide Service, Excellent Service!!!
Hello Asmcom, Are the prices in the first post of this thread current ? And do you have stock to sell ? My BU40N is starting to misbehave and I suspect it is dying. So I would have to buy a replacement.... And better to buy from someone knowing what it is selling and with a warranty it will work wit...

Well, I ran the drive with cover off. The laser pickup light up. Fierce. So maybe it is out of alignment but I don't think failing.

What could be the plausible cause ?
Hello Guys, I've got a set of CD/DVD burners from old Mac laptops. I've one which has a strange behaviour. It is a Sony Optiarc AD-5870H-P7, a slot in drive. When I insert a disc, be it a CD or a DVD, it start spinning it, the LED lit, moves back and forth, the discs stop, then start again and then ...

Old BD Drive. What to do with it ?
Hello, A friend of mine had an old high end laptop with a BD combo drive in it. The laptop is old and beyond repair. But the drive is fine. It is a Philips & Lite-on Digital Solutions Corporation DS-4E1S (it is a 12.7 mm thick SATA one). What use could it have ? Thanks in advance for your answer...

Re: Enclosure for a 9.5 mm BU40N WITH external power
I've done this on the only USB-C my laptop has and the behaviour is the same (I used a small USB-C to USB -3 mechanical adapter). I would like to check if the drive is at fault or if the computer has the spec adhered to or not. Less and less people use optical drives these days so maybe laptop manuf...

Enclosure for a 9.5 mm BU40N WITH external power
Hello All I've got a BU40N which gives me reset issues on my laptop. Both under Linux and Windows. I'm told this may be caused by power issues. As I use a laptop and an USB 3 enclosure, I wonder what else I can do to augment the power available to the drive. So do any of you know of an enclosure whi...

Re: Unreadable Blue Ray disc.
Hello,
IMHO, the disc is somewhat dead.
It is not read in the reader of my sister in law (LG something) nor in the Pioneer reader in the set top box attached to my TV, and not in the BU40N of my laptop...
