Enclosure for a 9.5 mm BU40N WITH external power
Hello All I've got a BU40N which gives me reset issues on my laptop. Both under Linux and Windows. I'm told this may be caused by power issues. As I use a laptop and an USB 3 enclosure, I wonder what else I can do to augment the power available to the drive. So do any of you know of an enclosure whi...

Re: Unreadable Blue Ray disc.
Hello,
IMHO, the disc is somewhat dead.
It is not read in the reader of my sister in law (LG something) nor in the Pioneer reader in the set top box attached to my TV, and not in the BU40N of my laptop...

Re: Unreadable Blue Ray disc.
Well my Blu-Ray player *also* refuses to read the disc.
Tonight, I'll go to my sister in law and see if her Blu-Ray player is doing better....
Thanks anyway.

Unreadable Blue Ray disc.
Hello All ! I've a blu ray disc "Blue Ruin" a film by Jeremy Saulnier which can't be read by either a plain Blu Ray player, or my laptop with a BU-40N and MakeMKV 1.17.2 or VLC. My file manager sees some content of the disc : https://i19.servimg.com/u/f19/17/79/70/72/captur32.png MakeMkv r...

Re: bluray playback with VLC
Hello, I hope you know some basics : 1) how to open a terminal 2) how to run a command as "The super User" or "root" account for your flavor of Linux. If yes to the above questions, then :*Open a terminal, become root, then issue this command : find / -name "libmmbd*" -...

BU40N firmware flash
Hello ! I own a BU40N which came with "A103" firmware. As I could not back up the firmware present on the drive (I got a 70kb tar file instead of the expected 2Mb binary) , I suspected the HL-DT-ST firmware was encoded. In order to turn LibreDrive on, I flashed it with the 1.03 firmware us...

Re: A strange behavior with a BU40N drive
Hello, I was dragging my feet for the firmware update. As a long time Unix system Engineer, I know it takes two to make a bug or a fault. So I though that if the drive is doing fine into Windows 11 OS, it was not 100% it's fault. So I dig deeper in your forum and in the Linux part of it. And I found...

Re: A strange behavior with a BU40N drive
Hello MartyMcNuts, I've used this command : "sdftool -d /dev/sr0 dump full" to dump the firmware from the drive and I've got a 2MB file. And I've got "dump_full_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_A100_211701021159_KZDH1DC1211.bin" file... For what I was able to look into this file, it looks li...

Re: A strange behavior with a BU40N drive
Thank you for your answer, but I would like to narrow the issue as far as I can and report it back to the Ubuntu people. So I would like if I can to change the firmware of the drive to check if it is firmware+Ubuntu or firmware alone. * What puzzle me is that when I tried a "plain" DVD dri...

Re: A strange behavior with a BU40N drive
Hello, I remembered that I had a Windows sitting on a part of the NVME card in the laptop. So I fired that Windows 11 up and, bingo ! The Apollo 13 DVD opened up and play fine in MakeMkv... (and in VLC for that matter). So I rebooted in Ubuntu just to see that the DVD is showing . It seems that once...

Re: A strange behavior with a BU40N drive
Thank you for your answer. I do not think there is a power problem. For two reasons : 1) the drive is plugged in USB-C port on the laptop ---> do not work. 2) the drive is plugged using USB-C cable to a Thunderbolt hub powered with a 90W box ---> do not work. This same setup can read and write anyth...

How to convert a 5.5GB m2ts file into a less big DVD.
Hello All, I've a lot of m2ts files my set top box generate when tapping a TV channel. I would like to save some of them into a physical DVD in native DVD format in order to archive and play them. I can't devise a way to do this. So I'll thought asking you is the way to go as you're the experts. Man...
