Re: Dead Drive or Firmware Issue?
I just went through a similar issue. My WH16NS40 quit reading blurays. I tried several, with no luck. I had a DVD handy, and it read it fine. The last disc I remember successfully ripping, had several country errors that had to be worked around, which isn't normally a problem. The work around always...

Re: 'Nother Newbie Inquiry: What exactly are the advantages of bdmv file over the mkv file, and vice versa?
Older thread but I thought I would add reasons why I prefer mkv in addition to those already mentioned. I think most of us find the MKV format to be more convenient to work with. You are only storing the disc content / title you want, rather than the entire disc. It is portable to many device types....

Re: Automatic SBC based Ripper
I use an ODROID H2+ for my daily driver and it works fine with USB DVD rips. I also have an atomic pi, but have not tried it since it is flaky for me.

Re: Work around read errors
I had that problem today. I created a backup and ripped the title. I will watch it tonight and look for issues in the playback. I will report back tomorrow (hopefully).

Re: What do you do when you just can't get a disc to rip and return/exchange isn't an option?
I just encountered a bluray today that wouldn't rip. I tried it in 2 different drives and got read errors in both. I tried to create a backup of the entire disk, and for some reason it worked. I was then able to complete the rip. I will watch it tonight to see if it was successful. I cleaned the dis...

Re: XBox 360 HD-DVD Drive Issues
It should work. I just discovered my XBox-350 drive, plugged it in and ripped an old HD-DVD copy of the Matrix. Ron is right. Windows doesn't process the encrypted HD-DVD content so you need a third party software to do it.

Re: Is there a significant loss in quality if I use makeMKV and Handbrake for ripping blu rays?
Answering as a two part question... makeMKV does not alter the bitstream content of the ripped dvd/bluray/UHD (other than you may include/exclude content such as sound tracks, subtitles, videos from the output). Each title from the disc is output to a separate .mkv file with no loss of quality or ch...

Re: Please learn how to distribute packages
and I'm just thankful it all works... I've never done this before, so forgive me... Maybe we can simplify the decision for Mike et al. So what are the issues here? Select a package manager... can it be consistent across all linux platforms? Is the licensing an issue when this is packaged? What other...

Re: Where to rent 4 UHD movies discs by mail?
+1 for Redbox rentals. Movies are few and far between. They are only in the box for a limited time, then they disappear forever. They do sell off the old titles before they disappear from the box. Rentals are 2.50 per day and the purchases are $10.99

Re: MakeMKV on Raspberry PI (ARM)
I just wanted to provide the promised update. I received the powered USB 3.0 hub and a 2.5Gbe adapter. The hub seems to have resolved the power issue I suspected. I am able to play dvds in KODI on the pi now with my LG WH16NS40. I haven't had time to figure out VLC yet... After recompiling the kerne...

Mike,
I have an old BD-RE WH14NS40/MT1939 drive that I noticed LibreDrive was enabled with the recent update. I want to thank you for your effort to bring this capability to an older drive like this.
Thanks for your continued efforts!

Re: MakeMKV on Raspberry PI (ARM)
I was planning to use a usb bluray drive. I pulled one from another system, and coupled it with the cheapest powered usb sata adapter I could find. It didn't work. I suspect there is not enough power on the usb3.0 port as I also have a ssd plugged in. The adapter worked fine on my windows 7 PC, so I...

Re: ARMv6 support / Raspberry Pi
I replied to the other pi thread, but I am a +1 for an armv7 build. I am a registered user with a pi4. My windows 7 machine is on its last leg so I bought this to see if it was a viable desktop. So far, with a 2100 ghz overclock, it seems to be just fine running Raspbian (now Raspberry) OS. I tried ...
