NS40 drives are too old. HW CAN NOT support UHD, no matter what FW you try.
Time for me to buy a new one, I guess... With a recent manufacturing date code.

Re: PSA: Important details to be aware of when shopping for your first drive. New pepole read this!

For UHD-capability, 2014 and earlier won't work. Even 2015 drives are unlikely to be UHD-capable unless they were made in the latter part of the year. Ugh, that's unfortunate. And I just (luckily) restored my drive after I hosed it trying to upgrade. Guess I should consider buying a new one. Thanks...

Re: Help an idiot with a 1st gen WH14NS40

Please clarify what you mean by "2014 and below"

Do you mean 2014 and newer (2014, 2015, 2016, etc.) or 2014 and older (2014, 2013, 2012, etc.)?

I have an LG WH14NS40 dated 2014-09-18.

Re: Help an idiot with a 1st gen WH14NS40

Hi all, Another idiot here... I tried to change the firmware in my WH14NS40 (SVC40) and I've completely hosed the drive. The drive now thinks it's an SVC50 with firmware 1.03. I've been trying the WIndows PE > DOSflash procedure, but when I try to read the flash, I get a "No known flash chip o...
