Yes. But all currently existing Pioneer drives will soon be able to run LibreDrive, including those drives whose firmware people unwittingly upgraded ;).
I guess the real point is that it might now be worth investing in a new Pioneer drive, while stocks last...
makes me feel all warm inside ...

when you say All Pioneer drives that sort of comes with a small caveat; Pioneer aren't going to make any more new drives as they are leaving the business of optical hardware manufacturing :(

could a user selectable I/O be implemented to use ElbyCDIO which is free to download or ASPI as there can be problems for some hardware using the default Microsoft SPTI, something like the I/O interface in IMGBurn or DVDDecrypter would be very cool.

AnyDVD was on top of the list. When it went away, I thought " Well More money down the drain.
SlySoft AnyDVD has not 'gone away' its just changed its name to RedFox AnyDVD and you can download an update here
