I normally rip with a Pioneer BDR-S12U which was giving me the key unknown and resulting dump. At whim, I've just dug my old BU40N our of mothballs, and the disc is decrypting fine using this drive? If it's a missing key, what difference would the drive make? Apologies if this is well known as I've ...

New keys auto downloaded this morning and confirmed as now working. Excellent job.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I after downloading a copy over the 15th October keydb file I still get volume key is unknown. ...though that being said I've never ever been able to get makemkv to read from a keydb.cfg file, ever never.

Further testing has positively indicated that the blu-ray drive plays up and won't always read properly when the HDD is plugged into one of the other type A ports. Presumably a current related issue serving all of the ports, even though the the blu-ray drive has it's own power. I've given up on that...

Regular Blu-ray seems to rip fine to the external HDD apparently.

I can copy to the external HDD and rip to the internal HDD at the same time, no problem. Some NUC chipset sadness then, I guess?

Good questions. I'll need to check that out. It's NUC8i7 and I had the external HDD plugged into one of the front facing ports which say SS10 on them.
