Re: Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit 4K (Finally!)
Did you use any special settings for LOTR FotR EE Disc 2. I can't seem to get it to work for my set.. all of the others ran fine.. No special settings. Does your drive mount the disk but makemkv not read it? In my case, I could not even mount the disk. The drive works just spin and not recognize th...

Re: Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit 4K (Finally!)
From my original set disc 2 does better but still has an error on file 00073.m2ts (the big 29GB one) .. really not sure why. It does this on both the drives. The SHA1 I get from my resulting dump of the 00073.m2ts file is: 6740e0b97dc9f9056dc17927f16d84475e693871 00073.m2ts can I ask if that matche...

Re: Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit 4K (Finally!)
Yeah, the joys of ripping this set... I finally got all the extended ripped. I did a full disk backup for all of them just to be safe. One of the ROTK disks would not even be seen by the drive most times. A total power down and starting with the disk in the drive got it to load ONCE and I made a suc...

Setting the custom java to /bin/true made it work! I'd love to see this fixed and would be happy to test any fixes...

Re: Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit 4K (Finally!)
Did you try cleaning the disc a couple times? Do you have another drive you can try? In my experience, different firmware than the recommended firmware for the drive only makes things worse. Yeah, I tried cleaning it but I don't think that's what finally worked. After cleaning I rebooted and gave i...

Core dump trying to rip some Lord of the Rings disks
I recently picked up the 4k UHD Lord of the Rings set. After many trials, finally got all the disks backed up (full disk backup). I'm now ripping the main feature mkv but several of the backups crash (it's also reproducible with the actual disk). This is on Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon and MakeMKV v1.16...

Re: Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit 4K (Finally!)
Update on this.... Got my replacement today. Just ripped The Two Towers Disk 1 with no issue at all :D . That seemed to be a problem with the original disk I received. Still have an issue with Return of the King Disk 1 however... My drive does not even mount it. Both disks have had the same issue. A...

Re: Is ripping 4K Blu Rays Practical?
This comes up all the time... The reality is at current electricity costs re-encoding for space costs more than hard drive space. Add on top of that lower quality visual and / or audio it really is not worth it.

Re: Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit 4K (Finally!)
Raising this thread from the dead... Finally picked up LOR Extended 4k from Amazon US. Opened it up and one of the disks (Return of the King Disk 1) had popped off the center hub and was sliding around the case. Started the ripping process and full disk backup has worked on all but two disks. Two To...

Re: Thoughts on Building new PC to rip "BluRays (4K)"
I thought I'd throw my $0.02 in to this conversation... At this point, you may actually find it cheaper to buy more storage space as opposed to encoding. It sounds somewhat crazy but if you run the numbers using average electricity costs, the $/kwh power usage over 4 - 12 hours of encoding is greate...

Re: MakeMKV on Raspberry PI (ARM)
I was just thinking about this as well... I'm playing with the idea of ditching my MythTV Frontend / Backend and going with a Odroid N2+ for the frontend and a smaller, more efficient server running the backend.
Being able to have MakeMKV on the N2+ providing decryption would be great.

Re: Use MakeMKV new integration with VLC to get correct playlist/segment list
This is actually something I've wondered about as well. I use linux and have symlinked libmmbd to /usr/lib and it works great to play the disks directly within VLC and MythTV (I've not yet tried Kodi). Mostly I rip the mkv to disk and watch from there but here are titles (stupid Lions Gate...) that ...

Re: Exporting physical blurays
Interesting... I may play around with this a bit.
Question however, what happens in the case of a bluray like done by Lion's Gate where they use the protection that generates 100's of fake playlists? Does your system suddenly get overloaded by many fake mount points?
Thanks!
