Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

If I understood this correctly, you used to use makemkv to make mkvs for pure archival purposes. Since makemkv never recognized the secondary video track containing the DV layer, I'm guessing you used another tool (mkvtoolnix?) afterwards to inject the DV video track. Whenever you needed to watch a...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Many thanks. Ah ok. I also of course have the option of just playing the disc :-) However, in my particular case I’m interested in a worlflow where I archive my movies as mkv on my NAS (which I prefer since more information is retained), and then “export” to .ts files when we watch something. I do ...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Hi - this is a great development. I tried with birds of prey. I used the single (BL + EL + RPU) video track created by MakeMKV to make a .ts with tsMuxeR (git-e347781) The resulting .ts shows as Dolby Vision with BL + EL + RPU in mediainfo but will not play at all on my x700 (let alone in DV). I tri...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

@mike_admin as regards the Sony X700 I’m afraid DV in mkv won’t work. If I gather correctly your asking for feedback for different devices. As you may be aware the X700 has a strange DV implementation that does not auto-engage. It is either on for all UHDs (forced DV where there is no DV) or off for...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

after more comparisons with my TV internal app and the x700, I now believe the Shield actually output over-saturated color in DV. I suspect it's because they send a bt2020 rgb 8bit signal while the x700 and the appleTV send RGB 8 bit ( no color primaries signaled). Netflix Stranger Things DV compar...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Decided to get an X700. Used it to watch Casino Royale. Wow! It looked phenomenal, especially the intro montage. I am seeing the same issue where I can only play a single TS file at a time. After that when attempting to play back the file there’s a giant red or green box overlaid on top of the scre...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

While comparison of screen shots is helpful to rule out SL matching DL, it will take more than subjective comparison of a handful of frames to re-assure me SL is genuine DV. While DV truly started to shine for me post OLED calibration (I cant overstate what a difference that made and is why I’m foll...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

I was relieved to see others experience the crash issue, and needing to turn it on/add after playing any DV ts file. I nearly went into town to have my X700 swapped assuming it was a fault. I’d also spent a while trying different HDMI cables and HDMI paths to no avail. At the end of the day not a b...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

- I’m finding the Atmos tracks on some of my Disney movies always cause the eac3 to crash partway through, meaning I can’t add Atmos to these .ts files. Reading around it seems because eac3 uses some out of date libraries. There was talk of recompiling the source code with newer libraries. If there...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

...actually I also have a noob question.

Every time I use tsMuxeR it says something about a “B-pyramid” and shifting a few frames. In light of the lip sync issues (which I’m touching wood are gone now) - is this normal?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Sorry if this is a noob question as I've been trying to follow all the progress being made here lately, but how do you keep both video layers when you do the initial mkv rip in step 1? All the ripped MKVs of DV movies I have only show up with one video layer when imported into tsmuxer. I even verif...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Ok - I am on cloud 9. I just tried: 1) Game of thrones S8 UHD rip using MakeMKV 2) Extract .thd and convert to .thd+ac3 using eac3to 3) Using tsMuxeR nightly build, imported the two video layers from the mkv created in 1) alongside thd+ac3 created in 2). It works beautifully on the X700! :-) - Plays...
