Just clarifying for myself. Been a long day of garage cleaning and purging.

I have the Wh16NS40, works well. I have some discs that generate errors when trying to backup. Ones usually associated with disc problems. Have tried the standard cleanings and such to no avail. Discs too old to return. Just wondering if the BU40N is any better at reading/ getting past these type is...

Picked up the Vantec CB-ST00U3 based on the recommendation here. It works great. Drive seems much happier not being used vertically.

Thank you to everyone for an easy to follow guide. Just purchased my WH16NS40 and changed the firmware no problem. Testing first disc and so far, all is great.
