Re: Compressing blu-ray MKV with DVD settings
Many thanks to both of you. You have both helped me. For now, I have gone with 1280 x 720 with quality 20 for blu-ray and I will stick with 720 x 576 with quality 18 for dvd. I understand what you are saying about planning for the future but I like the file sizes for these settings and I can never u...

Compressing blu-ray MKV with DVD settings
Hello, I am used to ripping DVDs and have no problems. But I recently got into ripping blu-rays. So I have ripped a blu-ray movie with my paid copy of MakeMKV. MakeMKV did a perfect job as always but obviously I need to compress the files with HandBrake. When I rip DVDs, I use quality 18 and this ha...

Re: Please show the drive letter in the MakeMKV window
I use Windows. If there is no disc in the drive when I launch MakeMKV, the drive letter is shown in Device Information. However, after inserting a disc, MakeMKV detects it automatically and does a little scan automatically. MakeMKV then removes the drive letter from Device Information and instead sh...

Re: Please show the drive letter in the MakeMKV window
Do you have 'Ask for single drive mode:' checked on the IO tab in preferences? For the duration of a session, that ties an instance of MakeMKV to a particular drive which I think might help. Yes, of course. I need to have that checked otherwise there's no way to rip from 3 drives at the same time. ...

Please show the drive letter in the MakeMKV window
The source information just shows this: Type: DVD disc Name: DVDVolume The titles listing just shows the titles. Even the log doesn't show the drive letter of the source drive. Problem #1 - I have 3 DVD drives and I use MakeMKV (fully paid for with genuine key) to rip from all 3 drives at the same t...

Re: When will MakeMKV exit beta?
I use MakeMKV so much (for my 3 DVD drives) that I bought a key. And that's a big deal for me because I would never, ever pay for a key for a program that's in beta. But MakeMKV doesn't feel beta for me. It feels complete with the occasional update like any other program. So I bought it some weeks a...

Re: Feature Requests: Auto-Eject and Window Title
+1 for the first idea. Having MakeMKV support multiple drives at the same time is legendary and very much appreciated. But it can be confusing when each MakeMKV window doesn't always show the drive letter or volume name, etc. Ideally I would like the drive letter and volume name to be shown on every...

Re: When will MakeMKV exit beta?
I always thought that maybe MakeMKV remains in beta because of legal issues - since it does circumvent copy protection but maybe being a beta program gives it (and the author) some legal protection? And same story with the software key - it's completely free and maybe that gives more legal protectio...

Fake DVD warning with Warner Archive discs
So I have bought a few discs recently that were manufactured on demand by Warner Archive. As far as I know, Warner offer this service for out of print movies (correct me if I'm wrong). On two occasions though, MakeMKV has shown a warning - "This disc was probably recorded with DVDFab and is not...

Rarely, MakeMKV doesn't show all titles
So I am ripping The Flintstones Collector's Edition at the moment (my own legally bought copy). I insert disc 1 and ask MakeMKV to scan it. MakeMKV tells me that there are 6 episode titles available. So immediately I know that something is wrong because disc 1 actually contains 7 titles. So I click ...

Re: How many drives on a single USB port?
Just to follow this up. What I ended up going with is a front panel 4-port USB2.0/USB3.0 drive bay. It contains 2 x USB2.0 which I connected to the USB2.0 header on my motherboard and 2 x USB3.0 which I connected to another USB2.0 header on my motherboard using a USB3.0 to USB2.0 converter cable. Th...

Re: How many drives on a single USB port?
Ok I'm using only SATA/3 SSDs (no mechanical hard drives in my computer) and it's Windows 7 64-bit.
Intel i7/6700
16GB memory
Nvidia RTX 2080
2 x Samsung 8TB SSD (QLC)
and the DVD drives are LG USB2.0 GP57 range
and I'm only ripping DVDs (not Blu-Ray).

How many drives on a single USB port?
Hi, So I want to speed up my DVD rips. I have thousands of DVDs so it makes sense to run multiple copies at the same time and rip multiple DVDs at once using multiple USB drives. So what I'd like to know is how much of a single USB 2.0 port does MakeMKV use when a USB 2.0 DVD drive is connected to i...

Re: Virus in v1.15 Setup file
VirusTotal is reporting that uninst.exe (in the MakeMKV program folder) is a virus.
14/71 engines detected a virus in uninst.exe.

Encoding after ripping
So I think we all agree that MakeMKV does a fantastic job at ripping the files to MKV format. But what to do with the files after that? I need to compress them obviously. I want good quality but I don't want the files to be any bigger than 500mb for a 30 minute TV episode or 1.5GB for a 90 minute mo...
