Re: select output resolution?
I ripped a blu-ray movie but the output is like 12gb in 1080p. I want to make it 720p, is there a easy way instead of reconverting again with another program? An alternative to changing the resolution is to reduce the bit rate. I have used BD Rebuilder to compress .m2ts files of that size to 5 GB a...

Re: Set all components to be not ticked?
Yes, you can. See "default selection rule" in advanced preferences. It's explained in detail in "advanced MakeMKV usage" subforum. I don't see any explanation how to get to "advanced preferences". All I have is a Preferences dialog. Nothing on any of the tabs uses the ...

Re: How to shrink the mkv files
I notice the latest release of BD Rebuilder has some PGS subtitle support. I haven't tried it yet. But in the past I had to extract the subs myself using mkvextractGui-2. I'm not sure if it's gotten to the point where an mkv file can be used as input. I thought it was on the ToDo List. I think the a...

VLC 2.0 has some interesting anomalies... Try using the Playback/Chapters menu a few times, and watch what happens with the menu itself. I'm getting ready to go back to the 1.1.11 version, which was at least stable. I wish it was for me. I had no problems at all until 1.0. Then I started getting th...

Spot ON! I enabled the De-Interlacing mode on VLC and problem all solved and now looks every bit the same as the original DVD did under DVD PLayer. Many thanks for all the help from all who responded. Wayne I found lately VLC to be very fragile. More often than not once the video has started playin...

Re: How to shrink the mkv files
An alternative is to use MakeMKV to back up the entire BluRay structure to your HD. Then use BD Rebuilder. I have a 27" crt type HDTV and WD set top box. I find I can get excellent quality with an output file under 5 GB in real time using one pass mode. How long BDRB takes to encode depends on ...

Re: Is converting disc content to mkv files really necessary
I like it quite a bit myself. I bought my copy over a year and a half ago. I don't regret the purchase and use it frequently.MakeMKV is great!

Re: Is converting disc content to mkv files really necessary
I don't buy externals. I use USB 3.0 docks with internal drives. If you take the enclosure off an external drive, it's just a normal internal drive. It's not too hard to find out which internal drive is sold in the different enclosures - if you're looking for a specific model. Since you already kno...

Re: Is converting disc content to mkv files really necessary
With DVDs, there's the added complexity of dealing with structural copy protection. Oh well. I have the feeling there's a non-technical reason. I can understand it if that is so. I don't think I've ripped a DVD so far that gave MakeMKV a problem. That's a major reason I'd like to see the feature. B...

Re: Is converting disc content to mkv files really necessary
The hard drive price hike won't last for long. There are still plenty of deals to be had. I just got a 3tb external USB3 drive for $99.99 on Amazon last week. If I ever need to go from MKV to DVD I just use ConverXtoDVD. There's no passthrough option, but it does a nice job of re-encoding and makin...

Re: Is converting disc content to mkv files really necessary
Still, even an .iso output with no menus may be a nice feature. It may have seemed lame to burn to disc a few months ago. But now drives I bought for $80 to $90 a few months ago are selling for $240. Hard drive storage isn't so cheap anymore. At least not drives that perform like WD Caviar Black ser...

Re: DVD rip time on different speed computers
If the slower computer can process the input fast enough that the drive can read at capacity then the statement should be true. Instead of theory try ripping a couple of single layer and double layer discs on each system and see what you get.

Re: The trial/key mechanism for MakeMKV is confusing
That's what I'd gathered was happening, my point was more that this isn't apparent from the message shown. My only hint that I needed to upgrade was the 'v1.6.x version now available to download' link in the output area. I can understand how things can be ambiguous. But my memory fades since I purc...
