Re: Thoughts on BU40N vs other drives?
I've gone through 2 WH16NS60 drives in 2 years. I rip maybe 10-15 discs (combination of UHD and blu ray) a month. So the lifespan that I've seen hasn't been great. Disc handling generally isn't an issue. I do have ones that do have issues ripping occasionally. Usually it's because of a dirty or scra...

Can iPad Pros handle 4k MKVs?
I was curious if 4k MKVs made from UHD discs can be played back on an iPad Pro? I was thinking of picking up one of the new ones as it has the HDR screens and all the M1 goodness. But I was wondering if they'd be capable of playing back my 4k MKVs? These obviously have a mix of of audio formats depe...

Re: Streaming box/player for 4k DV & Atmos playbackl
Your best bet would be to just play the full disk folder or iso backups off your oppo. Which I definitely end up doing. The problem I have is that the Oppo doesn't end up playing with DV, just HDR10. If someone has a method to do that with an Oppo that would be awesome. But I kinda assume there isn...

Streaming box/player for 4k DV & Atmos playbackl
Hello. With all the awesome new developments that have added in DolbyVision and Atmos, what are the most effective hardware/client combos for playback on TVs? I have all the 4k MKVs on a media server that is hardwired. I have an Oppo 203 as well as the Plex client running on my TV. The Plex client o...

Check if there's forced subtitles pre-rip
This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to tell if a title has forced sub-titles before you do a rip? It's not a huge deal, but when I am ripping a UHD disc I'll select the English subtitles just in case there's any forced subtitles. I can only tell at the very end of the rip when it says th...

Extract subtitles and insert into another mkv
I have 2 mkv files, one with subtitles and one without. I want to extract the subtitles from one mkv file and insert it into the other mkv file. Anyone know how to do that?

Advice for 4k ripping sensitivity?
I've noticed that ripping 4k discs seems to be pretty sensitive. I'll have a disc that plays fine on my Oppo 4k blu ray player, but will get a good way through ripping only to have "corrupt or invalid at offset". When I inspect the disc for scratches it will look almost pristine. Usually i...

In US, looking to purchase 4k ready drive
I've seen a couple people here that sell 4k ready firmware'd drives. I'm interested in purchasing one. I would have directly messaged them but I just registered, so it won't let me PM. Can someone message me with contact details?
