Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hi I made a new "test file" for those who wants to try quickly if a tv is able to read DV mp4 or not. 13 Hours.teaser.DV.mp4 - 213.2 Mo Enjoy ! Good. Thanks for sharing. I also have 13 Hours disc. As usual from Paramount, this disc features Full Enhancement Layer Dolby Vision. FEL has ave...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I’m not sure if Braveheart has seamless branching. If you watch the upper left box while MakeMKV is ripping the disk to MKV files, where it shows progress on the current title, the "Source file" entry will change from time to time if seamless branching is used in the movie. It's not guara...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I posted yesterday, I tested Braveheart. Somehow my message did not come through? Anyway, I muxed it from the 0800.mpls playlist with mkvtoolnix. Then used the mkv.cmd script from Grencolas dv-mp4-maker. Works fine on my LC C7. Here’s an update to my experience with Braveheart DV mp4. There are two...

Is this true? To date I only tried Justice League which had less than 60 MB DV track and honestly I couldn't find any difference which the HDR10 version (Both remux and m2ts).
If this claim is legit so what are the best DV movies I can try? I recently got US but I haven't watched it yet...
4K UHD Bluray discs use Dolby Vision Profile 7 (dual layer).
There are two type of Dolby Vision Profile 7.
1. DV Profile 7 with MEL (Minimal Enhancement Layer)
2. DV Profile 7 with FEL (Full Enhancement Layer)
MEL contains dynamic metadata for HDR. And FEL contains dynamic metadata + data from the original HDR master for full 12-bit color.
Paramount, Universal and Lionsgate are known to exclusively use FEL. (only exception from Lionsgate was their recent Robin Hood release. This used MEL).
Warner and Disney are known to use MEL. (The only exception was 2001 A Space Odyssey from Warner and Black Panther from Disney. These two used FEL).
Why don't you try Braveheart (Paramount)? This is known to be a reference standard transfer and contains FEL. For some reason, I can't get Braveheart DV mp4 to play on OLED. It's HDR10 and 4K Bluray disc play fine though. Can you make a Braveheart DV mp4 and report back your findings?
I'll try Braveheart and I'll report here
Just remember, there are two types of Dolby Vision Profile 7 on 4K UHD Bluray:
1. MEL (Minimal Enhancement Layer)
The video info is only in the base layer (10-bit 4:2:0) and the MEL only has metadata. (Metadata being dynamic, this is still better than static based HDR10).
2. FEL (Full Enhancement Layer)
FEL layer has metadata and the extra picture information bringing the final output to 12-bit. Usually hevc file size for FEL is about 10% of hevc file size of base layer.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Tried this with Last Jedi UHD. Don't waste your time with TLJ or other Disney releases. They have a "fake" DV track that is just there so they can claim their discs have DV and trigger TV's to show DV. The track on TLJ is just 76MB, whereas all other discs have DV tracks between 2 and 10G...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Has anyone made Braveheart (1995) in DV mp4? Braveheart DV mp4 is the first title my LG OLED can't play. How did you make it? I tried both CloneBD and MP4Muxer. Both mp4s failed to play on OLED. Another thing is the mp4 can be played on PC but audio is 3-4 sec quicker. In other words, video is 3-4 ...

Hi tango306, Read your discussion with Grencola... I'm having trouble creating good mp4 from mkv. Been reading on this forum for that and it's hard ignore the discussion :P ...I was wondering why u think original UHD Dolby Vision Blu-ray discs are 12-bit? Or did I misunderstood? A few months ago (w...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
H.265 HEVC is lossy codec. Period. But that is literally what UHD Discs use.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_HD_Blu-ray <<Encoding: H.265/MPEG-H Part 2 (HEVC)>> I’ve said that several times to you when we discussed on DV. It’s a common knowledge here. Doesn’t change the fact that the codec i...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yes, but you can't see the difference between this encode of 48,2 Mb/s or the remux of 52,7 Mb/s. I have been comparing it several times. Maybe this is a nice solution for tv's that don't play dual layer mp4. Well, whether the difference is visible or not is different topic. And this is very depend...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Nothing can make single layer DV from original dual layer of UHD bluray without decrease in quality. Because original streams/layers are encoded in HEVC which is "lossy" codec. Once you unpack/decode and re-encode, there goes your quality. Yes, but you can't see the difference between thi...
