Re: UNRECOVERED READ ERROR and SDF ERROR on macOS Catalina
My experience has been that "Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR: UNRECOVERED READ ERROR' occurred while reading '/VIDEO_TS/VTS_etc.VOB' at offset 'number'" most often means the physical disc is dirty or damaged. I see this more with discs I buy used, but can even happen with a brand new &quo...

Re: No Disc Inserted – I believe my drive is dead
How is your MacBook Pro connected to the internet? Unless it is connected directly to a modem, it's likely the MBP is connected to a router via ethernet or WiFi. ISP <> modem <> router <> MBP Depending on your hardware config, your modem+router might be combined in a single device (for instance if y...

Re: No Disc Inserted – I believe my drive is dead
I notice in your debug log there are lines referencing “No SDF”. This may be a long shot, but in a post today by user iliveinabox05 he also found reference to SDF in his debug file. The two of you are not describing identical diagnostics, but fundamentally the problem is similar — unexpectedly you c...

Re: osCatalina
Thanks for sharing the info. I haven't migrated to Catalina yet, but good to know MMKV runs with it!

Re: can't find usable optical drives on os x
@stigcrafter is this still an issue for you? I'm a long-time Mac user and maybe I can help you troubleshoot this. At least I'll try! Looking at the specs for those drives, I see both use SATA interface. So my first question is which adapter are you using between the drive and the MBP? At one point I...

Re: Random "No disc inserted" error
Just want to say thanks for this tip; using a red laser DVD player worked. I have an 11-disc DVD documentary that has been passed around. The set is at least 10 years old and has acquired scuffs from handling. No deep scratches, mostly just friction from discs rubbing against each other (who's idea ...

Re: The Original "UHD Friendly Drive" Supplier alexcoluzzi32@gmail.com (email) - now with pictures!
This is another endorsement for Alex. I live within driving distance and it was a pleasure working with a local. Alex is FAST. The drive I wanted, WH16NS60, was out of stock locally. So I purchased a unit on Amazon and had it shipped directly to him. About an hour after the tracker tells me it’s bee...
