Re: Difference between index.bdmv and MovieObject.bdmv?
I use index.bdmv when ripping episodes. If left up to the standard disc interrogation, the episodes are almost always out of order. Using index.bdmv rips the episodes in the correct order (I have found). index.bdmv is simply used to tell MakeMKV where the Blu-ray folder is. Selecting it doesn't aff...

Re: The Guns of Navarone
I have the "Stripes" 4K and it also has these A/B titles. Oddly, PowerDVD in one of my computers will play the A version, whereas PowerDVD another computer will select B. Weird...
I checked the subtitle tracks and you're correct, the differences are in the American vs. British spellings.

I've never had an issue with this. I just play each episode in PowerDVD and look at what MPLS is selected.

Re: My Blu-ray Remux Journey: 5,500 Titles, 210TB, and What I Learned
I have about the same number of discs. My NAS is "only" 70 TB (2 drives are parity, so 50 usable). I do have offline backups of all rips which is about 300 TB (plus secondary backups for really expensive or rare stuff). I use a lot of different tools because I've found that some discs are ...

1. If in the US, ripping Blu-rays protected by AACS (which most are) violates the DMCA clause on breaking DRM meant to protect copyrighted material. Further complicating matters, in the US the Librarian of Congress can issue exemptions from breaking DRM. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millen...

Re: 2000+ rips on my 8 drive NAS
So you pay people so they can commit a crime? They're not making much money if they have to pay the BluRay from the money you give them. Asking an assistant to buy a blu-ray with my own money (since I pay them/reimburse this expense) and ripping the disc for my own personal use falls under the &quo...

Re: Best software to create ISO file from full disk backup
If "Mount" isn't available in the context menu, it means .iso isn't associated with Windows File Explorer. Yes, that is true. However, Windows 11 has a "simplified" context menu that shows you a menu with minimal "most frequently used" options. If you want to see "...

Re: Best software to create ISO file from full disk backup
Out of curiosity, I right clicked on an ISO in Windows 11 and confirmed that you don't initially get the Mount option. However, after right clicking the ISO if you select Show more options in the menu, then you get the Mount option. After right clicking the ISO did you select Show more options in t...

Re: VERY EFFECTIVE fix for Scratched Blu-Rays...
[Translator] Smooth grinding of the surface using abrasive can be a great help in reading the information on the disk correctly. However, another problem may arise if you intensively polish only certain areas with scratches. Problems like the center of gravity moving away from the center of the dis...

Whenever I see this in VLC, I turn off hardware decoding and it goes away.

Re: Are backups worth it in the long run?
Thanks for sharing! I think I might just keep the disks themselves as the backups and keep only the mkv as the digital portion. I can get 1/2 of the space back I have now. I'm worried about burning out the GPU/CPU so I don't use handbrake at all. I might look into it in the future. My transcoding r...

Re: How can I save a DVD to folder structure?
So extracting the iso is essentially making a folder structure? I was used to make it with AnyDVD and only used MakeMKV for the video files. And now I want to change the program for Xreveal or MakeMKV. Yup. Just extract it and you'll have the folder structure (or use Xreveal which will do it direct...

Re: MakeMKV to Handbrake Pipeline
Yes, I have the same idea as you. HandBrakeCLI.exe won't automatically load presets from the GUI application. That is what --preset-import-gui is for. The CLI does have its own set of built-in presets (you can use "--preset-list" to list them). From a cursory glance, they seem to match th...
