Re: 2nd drive alongside Pioneer BDR-XD08TB - should I buy an LG BU40N, or an I-O DATA BDR-S16QZ/HA?
This is much too much to read. Hopefully this is more concise: Will LibreDrive firmware degrade performance when ripping CDs, or when writing discs of any kind? Will installing official updated firmware, provided by the drive vendor, improve performance when ripping CDs, or when writing discs of an...

Post the Makemkv info of your drives. I don't currently own the LG BU40N or the I-O DATA BDR-S16QZ/HA, so I can't post the MakeMKV drive info for those. I do own the Pioneer BDR-XD08TB; here's its MakeMKV drive info: Drive Information OS device name: /dev/sr0 Manufacturer: PIONEER Product: BD-RW BD...

Let's put it this way. Pioneer are the superior readers and writers. If you need to write to a disc, use the Pioneer. Pretty much any other "brand name" drive will be fine for ripping CD/DVD/BD discs and the next best drive that isn't a Pioneer would be the LG BU40N. Don't even look at th...

2nd drive alongside Pioneer BDR-XD08TB - should I buy an LG BU40N, or an I-O DATA BDR-S16QZ/HA?
I need a Blu-ray drive for the following purposes: Ripping (more often): Blu-rays DVDs Data CDs Audio CDs Writing (less often): M-Disc Blu-rays Data DVDs Audio DVDs Data CDs Audio CDs I'm unlikely to ever rip Ultra HD Blu-rays or 3D Blu-rays. Based on what I've read on these forums, it seems to me t...

[SOLVED] The source file '<Unknown>' is corrupt or invalid at offset 5300545536, attempting to work around
Trying to rip a certain Blu-ray Disc (MVM Entertainment's release of A Lull in the Sea ), I get messages that "The source file '<Unknown>' is corrupt or invalid at offset 5300545536, attempting to work around". These messages always appear while MakeMKV is ripping the 4th file on the disc ...

Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:READ OF SCRAMBLED SECTOR WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION
I've been getting error messages when attempting to rip a specific DVD, but other DVDs have ripped fine in the same optical drive. When I put the DVD in the drive, MakeMKV gives the error message "Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:READ OF SCRAMBLED SECTOR WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION' occurred whil...

Re: Can't rip to another drive/mount point
Is this not a problem for other Linux users? It's a known problem for users of Flathub's package of MakeMKV. See https://github.com/flathub/com.makemkv.MakeMKV/issues/6 for more information. Are you using the Flathub package of MakeMKV? (Note that if you installed MakeMKV via Linux Mint's Software ...
