Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
yep, that's how the eagle beak is supposed to look when Chroma Weight is working and this is exactly the bug described in Vincent video. L2 CW is rarely used by colorists though. This is so twisted for us mere mortals, do we conclude that on my LG E7 & Oppo set to "TV led", that indee...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
you can use this test file. Unless you have a C2, L2 Trim Chroma Weight will only work in TV-LED on cmv2.9 players... That is super helpful, thank you ! I had Oppo set to TV-Led w these tests. Using LG Cinema Picmode, DV cal profile from sonoftumble + 2/20 points settings. - Testfile: Not sure how ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
…The player should always use TV-LED when the TV supports both. Thanks & sorry, maybe my Q wasn’t clear. Using what method or test can we check that a player is using TV led, and ditto for the TV (in my case LG 2017 E7 OLED). The reason I ask, is I find the Oppo when set to TV led, there are to...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
We can choose either TV or player led through menu settings on Oppo, on ATV there’s no settings. Is there a way to know that TV led is being used ?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 10:53 pm… but yeah, the best you can do is to use a TV-LED device (atv shield or sony/oppo).

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
yeah the 2nd link is about the green push in SDR. HDR does not have this problem Thanks for confirming, reading more & more just confirms to me as a noob there’s so much more to learn & try. I want to buy that UHD disc but unsure how many DV patterns there are that could be useful to me. I ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
@Stacey usually responds to users questions here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=318227&page=41 Awesome, thank you ! I’ll read the 50 or so pages & post there. Tons of info, I’ve found two posts by Stacey that may be relevant to that test pattern, ATV & clipping (unsure if i...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
^^^ thanks for your replies, indeed the Ylow & CrLow squares are black. I just thought maybe I can send the ATV screenshot to S&M and ask. Buying their new UHD disc would be the official way to get some of their support : )

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
No idea compared to your oppo but I prefer the PQ of the ATV better than the Shield. Sorry I wasn’t clear. Knowing that the ATV has some clipping (Y low, Cr Low), does that translate in some perceivable difference for Picture Quality(PQ)? I recall that Y(Luma) tends to be more important than Cr/Cb ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
… But I think I read about Stacey Spears saying that Dolby ordered a bunch of their new benchmark discs so maybe that will be improved in the future. That’d be funny, Dolby Labs using S&M test patterns. I wouldn’t hold my breath between Dolby & Apple to have something changed anytime soon. ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hmm, so if we had a cmv4.0 DV test pattern, would we expect better conformance to that test pattern on ATV?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:21 pmit doesn't matter it still uses the most recent CMV4.0 engine to playback DV regardless of the input version and the pattern is cmv2.9 anyway.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
… that P8 pattern file looks correct only on cmv2.9 devices. It has issues on all the cmv4.0 devices. … thank you for the summary :) from previous experiment: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=134248#p134248 , I think ATV can only process P8 w cmv2.9, does it mean it’s a cmv2.9 device...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
^^^ Thanks, it is known that P7 MEL conversion to P8 is “lossless”. What I think was being pondered on, whether PQ for viewing a P8 movie is the same in a video processing chain using a reference video player vs the aforementioned software streamers (Infuse, Plex) on an ATV 4K. Using the above test ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I have been blindly converting hundreds of my Dolby Vision UHD BDs to Profile 8 for compatibility, but now I am starting to wonder if there is a point. When I compare the Profile 7 and 8 results in Plex on either the AppleTV or Shield they look the same. Now I can't see them side by side, but am I ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
with a DLSR camera, you can lock the auto-exposure and all the other settings. did a bunch of comparisons this way on my youtube channel. Thank you, I thought you had an HDR capable capture device :-) I'll borrow a DSLR & try. My 2017 LG E7 internal player didn't play that pattern in DoVI P8 (m...
