This now opens in MakeMKV, but not in VLC. I don't get an error in VLC, it just loads infinitely. Is that because MakeMKV is using the public KeyDB, but VLC isn't?

Just kill it and try it again and it should work now that the drive's been added. If by this you mean close the Helper program, reopen the Helper program, and click on Disc Info, no, it still gets stuck at the same point. No sign of it either in MakeMKV directly or in the public key DB as far as I can tell.

Downloaded that one, clicked on Disc Info, it ran some things and is now stuck on “Starting FindVUK validate disc!” All the buttons are greyed out and there's no indication of any sort of progress being made.
