I had the same issue with the same film (Knives Out). I updated to JDK 11 using these instructions and following the the PPA answer, after which I pointed my Java custom executable location in Makemkv preferences to it and, voila, it stopped killing the rip at the Java step

I compressed the backup file and shared it with support@makemkv.com.

Let me know if there is anything else I need to do to figure this out.
