Compressing (Handbrake) blu-ray MKVs once ripped with MakeMKV?
I've done a number of blu ray discs. That many that they're scattered over 3 hard drives now, which I don't particularly want. I'm sure you all know as you'll have all done the same but the rips are in and about the 20GB-40GB range. I don't think I have any blu ray over that or under that. What I wa...

ALWAYS a problem with subtitles
I don't know if this is a DVD thing, a Nvidia Shield thing or what. So I have some martial arts DVDs. Stick them in to my PC, fire up VLC & watch them & the subtitles play perfectly fine. Rip using MakeMKV, send to my Nvidia Shield TV Pro, fire up Plex & watch .... no subtitles. I'll sel...

Justice League (2017) - which one?
Some times when there's no obvious video file, a quick Google brings up a result. Problem is, a quick Google for this keeps bringing up UHD results or the Zack Snyder version that lasts 10 years. I'm talking about the standard 2017 film. Ripping both files off the disc puts them both at 2:00:02hrs. ...

MacTheRipper issue when trying to copy DVD
DVD: China O'Brien 1 & 2. If you Google the film then it's the Hong Kong Boulevard cover with both movies on 1 disc. Error: "It appears that you are opening the disc processed by DvdFab/MacTheRipper which is known to produce damaged VOB files. Errors may follow - please use original disc in...

Re: Subtitles. Subtitles everywhere. How do you select?
I suppose all this will be pretty simple if you know what you're doing. What you posted looks good, however don't take offence to this as it is probably on my end through lack of understanding but I read your post and it seems to be highlighting/renaming subtitle entries when you know which one is w...

Subtitles. Subtitles everywhere. How do you select?
Ok so this is bugging me. I imagine subtitle files don't take up a lot of space (maybe I'm wrong?) but even still, I would like to keep my rips to a minimum - including everything I need but nothing that I don't need. Since I began I just checked everything that said English purely based on the fact...

Re: Determining correct version - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
General 'rule of thumb' regarding (NA) Disney releases: 00800.mpls - English intro/credits 008001.mpls <> 00802.mpls - Spanish <> French intro/credits (don't recall which is which) These 'other' language options will vary by release region. The other title may be a different 'angle', w/ subtle diff...

Determining correct version - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
I'm using this movie as an example as it's just happened to me but at the same time I'm also generally asking for future movies too - how can you tell which is the one you should be ripping? As what I've experienced with this movie, it's the first time it's happened. For the vast majority of blu ray...

What's so special about the LG WH14NS40?
This question isn't necessarily about UHD drives or indeed any specific type of drive other than a blu ray drive. I just couldn't see a general blu ray drive forum. This week i've had some issues copying blu rays and i'm wondering if my drive is bad or if the discs were likely bad - https://www.make...

Failed blu ray rips more frequent. How likely is a bad drive?
I bought a new blu-ray drive in January 2019. It's an LG BH16NS55.AUAU10B according to the Amazon receipt i got. It had been doing fine throughout 2019 with only the occasional blu ray that it wouldn't rip which i put down to bad disc rather than bad drive as they often wouldn't play in our other bl...

Re: Errors when trying to rip The Fall. Will only rip 2 of 3 episodes.
You didn't mention which drive type you are having issues with. The sequence of errors is typical of a USB-powered drive that is trying to spin faster than the USB power will allow. This typically happens later in the rip, when you reach the parts of the disk where the data can be read faster. You'...

Errors when trying to rip The Fall. Will only rip 2 of 3 episodes.
I tried ripping The Fall series 1 disc 2 this weekend but i kept getting error messages. I clicked the link about these errors and it says it 100% can ONLY be a bad disc or a failing drive. The drive is damn near brand new - only bought a few months ago, and has had no issues with any other disc, wh...

Re: Is it worth getting blu ray copies of 'non-blu-ray movies'?
Depends what you call a large screen. Large to some will be small to others. I have a 58" 4K TV, although i don't know how much 4K i actually get on the thing but i'm happy enough with it and i'd consider that to be a large TV although i have some friends with even bigger ones. I sit approx 6-8...

Re: [Newbie] - which file to choose when ripping?
Start here: What is the correct play list [insert title here]? There are some general tips, but, in the case you have, there are multiple "cuts" of the movie, and which you chose depends on whether you want the "theatrical" or "director" cut, which vary in a few scenes...
