I was distinctly under the impression that current stable builds of Kodi do not support DV in MKV files. To the best of my knowledge the only combinations that work reliably are Plex/Emby on Nvidia Shield Pros or the Zidoo players.charnathan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 4:59 amdoes the version of Kodi support Dolby Vision for MKV files?

Re: 2000+ rips on my 8 drive NAS
Correct - I use it in two ways: In my storage server to aggregate multiple RAID volumes into a larger single drive pool for ease of presentation as a single volume/file share In my backup server which is essentially just JBOD to provide a single backup target without having to worry about tracking i...

Re: 2000+ rips on my 8 drive NAS
Nah, you're doing it right. I like the WD Red Pros just fine. You get the 7.2k spindle speed and the 5-yr warranty. Red Pros are all we use in our client Synology on-prem backup solutions. Rarely ever have failures (can't remember the last one) with nearly 150 Reds in various sizes in production use...

Re: 2000+ rips on my 8 drive NAS
I manage about 70 Synology NASes currently, in various environments, and you're exactly correct. The DSM software is Linux and won't support DrivePool, but you can have all the RAID options at your disposal or just JBOD as you're doing now. Really, I think the answer is as you state with a larger NA...

Re: 2000+ rips on my 8 drive NAS
So how would this work with me swapping-out full HDDs for new HDDs every so often? Wouldn't RAID try to automatically re-copy the data from the full HDD to the fresh one? I've been managing all manner of RAID arrays for decades in my professional life (Linux mdadm RAID, Dell Perc, HP Smart Array, L...

Re: DNS/IP Filtering
I've seen the same issue when using VPN exit points in the UK and Europe as well. The only resolution is to use VPN exit nodes in Asia, such as from Japan. Seems to resolve fine from there. I've asked this question multiple times without response: If we're told that https://hkdata.fairuse.org is not...

Re: DNS/IP Filtering
I'm assuming you're in the US or Europe? This has been my experience as well for several months now. Frankly, I don't know why people keep saying that MakeMKV doesn't rely on fairuse.org, however. I literally see this in my firewall logs every time a disc attempts to load without a VPN on MakeMKV v1...

Re: UHD Drive having Trouble Reading Some 4K Discs.
I'll add to what Woodbeck stated and specifically say use a VPN with exit nodes in Asia. I have had the HK download fail from the US and Europe, but succeed from Japan.

Re: DNS Issues in the US for hkdata.fairuse.org
While I cannot comment on exactly what the application relies on to pull down the latest HK, I can say that I have reams of firewall logs all showing that MakeMKV v1.17.3 absolutely attempts to resolve and hit hkdata.fairuse.org. And when that fails, the application produces an error indicating that...

Is the Hashed Keys Site Up?
Can anyone in the U.S. confirm that they can resolve hkdata.fairuse.org? This of course being the site from which the latest SDF file is downloaded. This seems to be ongoing for a couple of days now. Based on digs from MXToolbox, Google etc., it appears that the A records is gone, at least for U.S. ...

Re: DNS Issues in the US for hkdata.fairuse.org
DNS work-arounds with pinpoint DNS Zones on the domain controllers and static DNS entry on the UTM/Firewall fail after trying hard. Ultimately, this solves the resolution issue, but connection timeout errors persist from hkdata.fairuse.org.

DNS Issues in the US for hkdata.fairuse.org
Appears that lookups in the U.S may be having issues resolving hkdata.fairuse.org again. Yes, I'm aware it's a Russian site, yes I know how Geo-IP works, and yes I know the usual troubleshooting steps. Right now nslookups are failing from multiple locations, and have been for a couple of days. Digs ...

Re: Newbie question about MKV and Dolby Vision playback
As mentioned, just ripping the video track with the latest version of MakeMKV will retain the DV metadata. I strongly recommend the Nvidia Shield Pro (not the "tube") as a playback device for DV MKVs. I'm using Emby to serve up the media, but Plex should work as well.
