I use MakeMKV for ripping all my television episodes. They play fine on my WDTV. I can fast forward and rewind fine (though rewind fails to show on screen the timecode does count backward). Skipping ahead and backward to different channels doesn't work, but I think this is a WDTV issue. The chapters...

You can also use mkvmerge to split produced MKV file. This feature is a bit tricky from UI prespective. Feature request noted, but I would not count on it to be implemented soon. That is only partially true. You can split a produced MKV, but it does not allow for splitting of MKV based on chapters....
