Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

There's a third party refresh rate app that you can load on the Shield that'll let you manually set the refresh rate at any time through a hot key. It's not ideal, but if you know whether a shows 24 or 23.976, you can change it on the fly. thanks, I took a look at that, jumped through a few hoops a...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

atv4K is indeed really good, if it had 24fps support and more profiles then 5 DV, it would win it all easy imo The ATV4K does seem to be frustratingly close to being a killer device. I would add passthrough of hi-res audio to the wishlist so that mkv players don't have to decode to PCM, but for Net...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Looking back on the last few posts, I wonder if, among the devices on the market that run official versions of the major streaming apps, a device exists that is even as good as the ATV in terms of framerate matching, never mind better? Notwithstanding the lack of 24.000 support, the ATV auto-matches...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

It's the originals that all seem to be filmed at 24.000. There's an on going list at avsforum of Netflix (and I think Prime Video) originals that are 24.000 Interesting. I think it fair to say though that a lot of content on Netflix/Amazon/Disney+ will indeed be native 23.976 (thinking about it, th...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Most of Netflix's content that I watch/have seen is true 24.000 (that is how it is recorded and provided to customers of the service - same for Prime Video). how does one verify that the content is indeed authored for broadcast/streaming at 24.0 ? When I pull up the mediainfo for my "24p"...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

A further note / question to @glc650. Is it the case that content shot for Netflix etc is published in true 24.000 ? Even if shot at 24.0, wouldn’t it be published for consumer use in 23.976? In which case, how is it relevant that the ATV does not support 24.0 ? A genuine question, not trying to sco...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

I have no blu-ray or UHD discs with a framerate of exactly 24p that I am aware of, so 23.976 would seem correct? I’d rather take the ATV for Netflix over the 60Hz from the Shield any day.

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

The Shield has some issues, but it's easily the best streaming device available today when it comes to Audio/Video support. They along with software vendors like Plex do run into issues which can take a while to solve, but no other platforms offer the potential for future fixes for as long as they ...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

thanks @MartyMcNuts. My 12D2HT is rarely used so will leave it on 3.11MK. My 16D1HT has been very solid on 3.10MK. My only gripe would be that sometimes when opening UHD discs it can make some alarming seek noises that sound as if the drive is about to die, but it's a bit random and the drive then o...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

Doesn't really matter. 1.02 is probably preferable in that situation. EDIT: Just saw your newest post. Use 1.00. That's the best firmware. thanks, will run that on my 16D1HT for a while and see how it goes. I also have an Asus BC-12D2HT on 3.11MK, would that also benefit from being cross-flashed to...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

Just found WH16NS60_1.00 in the DE pack, so looks like I have 4 versions to choose from! Guess I can suck it and see.

Re: SDFtool Flasher

thanks @SamuriHL. Just looked at the MK pack and I have a choice of 1.03 as current for the WH16NS60 vs 1.01 and 1.02 in the old folder. I only use makemkv, any recommendations as to which of three would be best for my Asus?

Re: SDFtool Flasher

Presumably, switching to the WH16NS60 firmware on the Asus drive is reversible if disc writing capability needs to be restored? I may drop it onto mine to see how it compares to 3.10.

Doesn’t the screenshot you posted tell you all you need to know? With patched firmware, all the capabilities described as possible with patched firmware, become, er, possible.

So if you update the firmware with the appropriate flashing tool (the guide is stickied), you’re all set.

Re: MakeMKV cannot see new LG BU40N drive

All sorted now. Thought I might clarify what did/did not work in case anyone else runs into this. This USB-to-slimline SATA lead is not working with makemkv 1.15.3, the drive does not even show up. However, many other Windows apps can work with the drive, but of course on this forum, it would be a l...
