Likewise I tend to pop a disc that might have forced subs into a an actual player first as this can give some clues.
As mentioned, most titles handle this via a dedicated track. Game of Thrones uses forced subs on many episodes, embedded in the main track, as per Avatar.

Re: Beware : New official 3.10 firmware for ASUS BW-16D1HT
I have an Asus BW-16D1HT on factory-fitted 3.00 firmware, i.e. it is already UHD and LibreDrive friendly. It sounds like there is now a way forward for getting latest firmware without losing these key features. However, I'm a bit nervous about doing that as I don't have any issues with the drive. If...

Re: Backup option greyed out for DVDs but not for blu ray
Ho hum. I run a registered version of makemkv and I think it's outstanding and Mike is a wizard, just had not occurred to me that there would be less functionality with DVD than with bluray. I don't have much need for full disc back up so I still think makemkv is fantastic, but I did stumble on this...

Re: Backup option greyed out for DVDs but not for blu ray
So I gathered. Can anyone advise why this functionality is not enabled for DVDs but it is for blu rays ? Does not seem intuitive.

Backup option greyed out for DVDs but not for blu ray
Does makemkv not have the option to create a decrypted backup for DVDs ? Just noticed it's not available for me (I know that you must not "open" the disc first). The option works for blu rays so why not DVDs? Seems very odd. Looks like I'm about to dust off my ancient copy of DVD Shrink!

Re: Bluray players that'll play a processed Blu-ray?
Well this may not be helpful, but if you want a disc spinner with good mkv support then Oppo is very good. Supports 24p, HD audio and UHD. Last time I tried (about a year ago since I experimented with one in person), it did not have automatic enabling of forced subtitles in mkv files even if correct...

Re: Bluray players that'll play a processed Blu-ray?
If considering Panasonic, bear in mind they have poor mkv support over a network, 24p is force converted to 60hz and no support for HD audio.

Re: The Mummy and TextST subtitles
I wanted to post the solution I found for the forced subtitles on the 1999 version of The Mummy as there aren't many useful hits via Google, so this might help others. On the UK blu-ray, the forced subtitles are in track 64 which is a textST stream. Makemkv can import it but Kodi won't play it (at l...

Re: New Feature - MakeMKV now extracts closed captions and saves them as text subtitles
On the subject of subtitles, has anyoine found a way of dealing with the forced subtitles on The Mummy blu ray? I think makemkv can read the TexTST track but Kodi cannot show it? That's one anomaly in my library I'd like to fix. (The 1999 version)

Re: 5.1 Audio from BluRay
Here is an easy workflow for beginners. Create the mkv file for the title as usual. Drop the mkv file into MKVToolNix (it supports drag and drop of files). On the Output tab set the split mode to "Before chapters" and type "all" in the Chapter numbers field. On the input tab if I...

Approach to version control
I was pleased to see the LibreDrive feature enable itself today on my Asus drive and want to thank/acknowledge the continued development on makemkv. However, having functionality install itself via a back door without user consent raises certain issues? E.g. what happens if an update breaks somethin...

Re: Weird subtitle problem - Black Panther UHD
I've never tried full-disc back-ups with Kodi but never had a problem with forced subtitles provided the title-level mkv is authored correctly. In my experience all Marvel titles have a separate subtitle track just for the "forced" subtitles (and many Marvel films have these). My workflow ...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection (new BBC copy protection?)
What drive are you using? My main drive is an Asus BW-16D1HT on factory-fitted 3.00 firmware and it's ripped all of S12 without a glitch. I just tried the first disc from S19 and makemkv opened it without blinking. Up to around two years ago, I was using a Pioneer blu-ray drive for ripping duties an...

Can the meaning of the debug code be explained for those who see it but have no problems with back-ups working? Having seen this thread I just tried 1.14.2 in case I had a problem and all was fine, except I did have this in the log:
DEBUG: Code 03DF/03/F0ED16432FAA
DEBUG: Code 03DF/03/F0ED16432FAA

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Has anyone tried this with the sony x700? Or Panasonic DP-UB820 Can any Panny UHD player even output 24p or HD audio from a non-disc source? In my experience even 24p is force converted to 60hz. So speculating about DV seems a bit moot if it even fails on 24p. Panny players are pitiful for (U)HD fi...
