Re: Automatic SDF/HK downloading is disabled or failed messages

@uhdlover
If you're disc isn't supported in the current private data tar, MakeMKV will auto attempt to download an updated one if a newer one is available on their servers. From what I can tell, it will not attempt to do it if the key is already available locally, or if there are no new HK updates ...

UHD Rom recommendation

I'm sure there's lots of suggestions in the forum but it's a bit overwhelming looking through it...

Can someone recommend an excellent, fast and reliable UHD internal ROM that can be easily flashed with the usual available firmwares to work work with MakeMKV?

thanks in advance.

Re: AACS 2.1 support

The mkv file format doesn't cover all features anymore that are available on UHD discs today. Especially DolbyVison and HDR.

What doesn't mkv cover in HDR? DolbyVision is the only HDR variation that mkv can't handle. Nor does anything else pretty much (mp4 with limitations) and almost no ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

I was just making an ISO from the encrypted folder as anydvd isos would not work for me when I first started backing up my discs.
I know it won't work with the discs being supported by mike, but as I said those isos would not work for me even when the discs were already supported.
I'll give it ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

When I first started buying those discs, I used to do encrypted isos with anydvd as it was the easiest option. Those almost never worked for me. It was a long while ago, but if my memory is correct, MakeMKV was throwing a ton of scsi errors followed by this discs can't be decrypted. I thought that ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

I guess that applies for normal 2.0 too then?
From what I recall standard anydvd iso backups were not working for me with MakeMKV due to lack of discatt.dat

Re: AACS 2.1 support

Redfox has released a new version that fixes the ability of AnyDVD to create protected ISO images of AACS 2.1 discs. I have tested that the resulting ISO can be opened with MakeMKV and processed without error. MakeMKV, of course, having support for AACS 2.1. ;)

This still requires scanning the ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

Definitely, with regular BRs, I like to open them in PowerDVD for special features occasionally.
With UHD discs, I will occasionally load up the entire folder structure so that I can watch a movie with Dolby Vision.

Oh yeah, good point on DV support in Full discs, forgot about that. There are ...

It scans the drives to see if there is anything loaded, but it doesn't process the disc, e.g hash check etc.

Re: AACS 2.1 support

Do I understand the key points from workflow:
- get the (unsupported) disc
- backup it into "protected whatever" format (iso, files, etc) - you get ~70GB "bundle #1"
- put the disc on a shelf
- the moment disc is supported, decrypt the "protected whatever" into decrypted folder structure (with ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

Mike,

you are right.

I still don't get why SamuriHL thinks I'm wrong. Thinking about it I think that I just assumed that the drive is UHD friendly / supported by Libre Drive. Maybe that's his point.

Because the way you want to do it, the disc never gets scanned by MakeMKV first. You need to do ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

Here are the commands I use to create a non-bus encrypted protected ISO with my NS60 drive:

"C:\program files (x86)\MakeMKV\makemkvcon64.exe" info disc:1
"C:\Program Files (x86)\ImgBurn\ImgBurn.exe" /MODE READ /SRC G: /DEST d:\ISO\[DISC_LABEL].ISO /START /CLOSESUCCESS

Thanks for sharing ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

I'll post the exact command I use later. It's something like makemkvcon64 info # where # is the drive number. This will put the drive in libredrive mode until you eject the disc. Which disables bus encryption, allowing you read the raw protected iso. At that point you only need the title key (and ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

I use makemkvcon to scan the disc and them imgburn to create the iso.

When you say *scan* you mean "makemkvcon --decrypt" ?
What I'm trying to understand is how you get the discatt.dat created without makemkv back, as from what I understood, this file is essential for future decrypting and will ...

Re: AACS 2.1 support

Haven't done it myself but as far as I understand it works this way:

Put UHD in optical drive
Run Makemkv and do nothing else. It will just enable LibreDrive to circumvent bus encrytion etc.
Make a protected ISO with other tools using the drive letter of the optical drive

Hmm, but without ...
