Re: Failed to rip The Martian on Blu Ray
I tried cleaning the disk with a damp cloth last night. I still couldn't get it to burn. It looks like burning this disc is a lost cause for me. I think I'll see if I can't find it at Redbox, or borrow it from someone, and burn it then. That should take me out of the defective batch pile - that or r...

Re: Failed to rip The Martian on Blu Ray
So what you're saying is that, according to the logs, there's a section of the disc that can't be read due, probably, to a manufacturing defect? I've tried trial copies of a few other ripping programs, just to see if it was MakeMKV having the problem, but they couldn't rip it either. I suppose this ...

Re: Failed to rip The Martian on Blu Ray
Yes, I am getting a read error, which is supposed to indicate a problem with the burner or the disc. But my burner has ripped other BDs after this one successfully and this is the second The Martian BD I've tried to rip, both with the same result. Below is the log. Debug log started at Tue Jan 16 01...

Re: Failed to rip The Martian on Blu Ray
I upgraded to the newest version of MakeMKV and I'm still having problems ripping the BD. I double-checked to make sure it's not an ultra version, and it's not. I did notice a "copy protected" symbol on it. Is it possible that the encryption is too high for MakeMKV? I did read elsewhere of...

Re: Failed to rip The Martian on Blu Ray
I realize the topic is old, but a solution was never posted and I'm having the same issue. I am hoping to garner one now. I am trying to rip the standard BD copy of The Martian, not something else. I just started using MakeMKV back in January; I didn't realize my version was so out of date already. ...

Re: Failed to rip The Martian on Blu Ray
Was a solution to this problem ever found? I can't seem to rip The Martian either. I am running version 1.10.6 on Windows. The error says it's a ready problem (either with the disc or my burner). I can rip other blu-ray movies fine, but not this one. I have even returned this copy and tried a second...

Re: Preserving Subtitles
So I was finally able to get this to work in Handbrake. It looks like I was just selecting the wrong options (although I swear I looked through all possible combinations). To get it to work, I chose Foreign Audio Scan in the first subtitle option and checked off Forced Only and Burn In. I chose my s...

Thanks for the link Chetwood. I'll see what MKVToolNix can do for me.

Re: Preserving Subtitles
Yeah, I ran into that multiple-subtitle-track thing. I was able to rip the MKV with just the one subtitle track that I wanted. So in my current MKV, there is only one subtitle track available. I just can't seem to get it to stay available when compressing it with Handbrake. I'll post over on their f...

Re: Preserving Subtitles
Woodstock, thanks for the reply. I tried using Handbrake to convert my large MKV to a smaller MKV and keep the optional subtitles, but I can't seem to get it to work. I must be doing something wrong. I'm selecting the PGS subtitles from the subtitle tab, but's it's not giving me optional subtitles i...

Preserving Subtitles
I recently found Make MKV and have began using it to rip my Blu-Ray and DVD collections. I often watch movies/shows when the children are in bed, so I turn the volume down an turn subtitles on, but this isn't always the case. So I want to keep the availability to turn subtitles on/off, depending on ...
